quote:so, this is the part of the series where you can't suspend belief. got it.
The premise is absurd (Russians building a machine which pierces another dimension under an 80’s shopping mall)

I don't know if this has been covered because I didn't read all the post, but did anyone else find it incredibly implausible that the entire mall was lit up and on fire and not one person, cop, fireman came by the entire time the Mind Flayer was creating havoc?
Plus, I would think the kids would be using more 80's lingo since the storyline is in the 80's. Am I right dude?

I enjoyed all three seasons. I get the feels when Eleven says "Mike". It's pretty cute.
I don't care to break the show down to its alleged political positions etc., I take it at face value as just a really entertaining series.
Selfish side notes:
I want to bang Mrs. Wheeler.
Mrs. Byers has great tits.
I want to bang Nancy but can't figure out why.
Other Side Note:
The Never Ending Story sing-along scenes were priceless/hilarious.

What if the upside down is the business of Hollywood?
What if the Mindflayer is the media we consume?
What if movies like Eyes Wide Shut, 8MM, and Stranger Things have been showing a greater increase in Russian money being funneled by Oligarchs into Hollywood (partly to wash it, partly to influence American audiences)?
What if this seedy side of business sits just under a thin veneer of respectability like a mall?

The lack of 80s lingo wasn't an oversight. This is set in the 80s but is about today. The writers see themselves as the grown version of the kids that they were in the 80s, they just want to tell stories, but they got to Hollywood and it's really messed up.

The only political position I got out of this season was that America should always kick Russia's arse.

Ever since I say Beetlejuice, I've always liked her crazy.

I'm conservative and a trump supporter, but I see nothing particularly political about this series. It's just a fun show with 80s nostalgia that pokes fun at the cold war and paranoia of the times, such as the satanic scare. Not sure how one could have lived through the 80s and interpreted this show as having some deep ideological undertones that relate to the current times.

A lot of people didn't get to experience the 80s or it's shortlived early 90s sequel until Bush got bumped out.
Hell, some people here don't remember Fun Fair Park.

The wife and I both thought this was the most cringe worthy scene of the three seasons.

The Galaxy, The Rampage, and I forget the name of the Mouse coaster.

Finished it last night. Overall, very enjoyable and entertaining. I didn’t see political overtones, agendas, or shots taken at anyone. I feel sorry for anyone who is so consumed with politics that you can’t enjoy a satirical sci-fi series without them getting in the way.
I didn’t even notice any lingo mistakes cause the other 80s references were so spot on (big hair, blue eye shadow, malls, satanic worship blamed for everything, Russian villains). Agree Hopper is in the Russian prison. Glad Billy redeemed himself at the end. Erica was annoying. Never Ending Story scene was lame but I’ll allow it cause the kid really can sing.
Lots of questions but look forward to the next season and how the other kids like 11 will fit into the story. They didn’t introduce those kids in S2 for nothing.

Probably because she's Winona Ryder and has always looked like she'd be a crazy frick.

I will respectfully disagree wholeheartedly with you.

Winona is Joyce Byers- the mom. Nancy is the GF of Johnathan

Whoops, guess my mind was stuck on Winona. I stand by the rest of my comment.

I laughed at the Neverending Story sing-a-long because it was light-hearted and fun, just like the show. It wasn't awkward, it actually fits in this show.
I binged this with my 17 year old and from season 1 have commented on some of the language and pointed out how kids didn't talk like that in the 80s. There are a lot of modern phrases being used but it's okay and easy enough to look past.
