I read the script and was relieved that Tarantino said he was cancelling it. Heard only recently he was going forward with it. Prepare to be let down. I usually like Tarantino, but this one is not going to be very good.
His directing makes his movies in my opinion. Like Pulp Fiction is probably pretty shitty on paper. He writes in a way that I think it would be tough for anyone else to direct his work.

Louis Lamour had a similar short story. 8 strangers holed up in a cabin trying to escape a storm. Including a fugitive and lawman. Wonder if he influenced Tarantino on this one.
Edit: in his story it was a Cabin/Stagecoach stop, and it was a blizzard they were escaping. There probably aren't very many of us who have read that story. Tarantino thought he was getting away with one passing this off as his idea.

quote:For sure. He's a master cinematographer, and creates an engaging environment. Still, a lot of the stuff in the script was just forcing shock value for its own sake. Reminded me of Kill Bill.

Feels like he is pulling a Travolta Pulp Fiction revival casting.

Dragged on far too long and relied too heavily on the disjointed stories of the six in the group that we knew were going to be killed off so she could get to Bill, and even that part dragged on waaay too long. Most of Tarantino's best action-scenes are anti-climactic in that the other guy gets wasted pretty quickly and brutally, but circumstances immediately following are always pretty hectic. (Think Travolta in PF, Hammersmark in IB, King in DU) I don't really want to ruin Hateful Eight or anything for you guys, but don't go in with lofty expectations.

If you're a Tarantino fan, what're you basing that on? We know he can direct a western, and that cast is sick.

Channing Tatum gets way too much hate, and I could see Tarantino giving him a comedic role, which he is amazing at.

See the problem for me with Kill Bill was the dialogue. I didn't particularly find it engaging. And that's a problem for me with Tarantino because that is far and away the strength for his movies (at least for what he brings to the table). His scripts are solid, but not anything groundbreaking or noticeably unique, so dialogue is what takes them from being just solid movies to good-great movies. So while I didn't dislike Kill Bill, I can't really say I liked it either. That was Tarantino's mulligan for me.
