So what was the deal with the device in the beginning. A breach opened and he jumped. No mention of it and he seemed disoriented when he got to the lab.

Well it has to be. You have Barry pretending to be the flash. Hopefully he gets it back at the end of next week. Two episodes max. Don't want to sit through 5 episodes of normal Barry

It was kind of goofy that Zoom released Wally before getting Barry's speed force. It was even goofier that once Cisco got Wally out of the room, that Barry didn't commence to taking Zoom down. Barry proved that he was faster than Zoom, and he had him trapped in the lab at that point. But instead they all sat around for who knows how long, shooting the breeze, waiting on Wells to set everything up. That was just plain goofy.

That was the Tachyon device that Eobard Thawne instructed Barry how to build in order to get faster. It is the device that caused Barry to move to Supergirl's earth.

I was thinking the same thing. It felt like they wanted to move a lot of the pieces on the chess board to speed up the game. At least they explained all the major points.
They said the Jay that died was a time remnant? Does that mean when he time travels it was his other, parallel self.

I think it is like when Barry first traveled back in time last season, he was running and looked over and saw himself running beside him. I'm guessing that is a "time remnant".

I scoffed out loud and rolled my eyes when Zoom said "You wouldn't believe me if I told you." in re: to the man in the iron mask.
I think it's the real Jay Garrick but he probably doesn't look like Zolomon.
