My personal favorite horror movie of the 1980's. Saw it on some late night cable channel super late one night as a kid initially.
Not nearly as talked about as many of the other more famous 80's scare flicks but IMO much better than most of them. Saw it again recently for the first time in a long time.
The premise and setting and situation are all much more plausible than most of the other 80's slasher flicks and that's what makes it extra good to me.
In addition to being one of the best scary movies of the 80's, it also has one of the best completely pointless boobs scenes to open the flick, because this was back when movies tried to actually give people what they wanted.

Tobe Hooper for the win.
I agree, this one is wildly slept on.

It's a good one directed by Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Salem's Lot, Poltergeist, Lifeforce).

Caught it late night on AMC as a teenager. I had never heard of it. Great horror film.

Great flick!!
Always enjoyed the guy that played the barker and a few other roles in the film.
Also, it’s a great time capsule of old 70s/80s traveling carnivals imo.

My favorite 80s slasher. I too caught this late night on AMC’s Fear Friday horror block as a kid in the early 2000s. This movie spooked me so bad I was hiding under my Christmas tree!
The atmosphere is so damn good and creepy/unsettling. Cinematography is damn great especially for a slasher. The killer is….freaky. Perfect late night horror movie and Tobe Hooper’s 2nd best movie behind Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
