Again, you're falling into an awfully slippery "better vs. worse" situation. When IMO, one is not any better or worse than the other.

It often gets me into trouble on this board, but I do believe in objective right and wrong and that most of us can differentiate b/t the two. Some things are matters of opinion and some simply are not. And it's not a slippery slope for me at all. It's just the way it is.

So when i'm presented with this option:
A. Watch some guys brutally torture and murder a girl
B. Not watch some guys brutally torture and murder a girl

Unless there is an extremely good reason for me to see it, I know that B. is correct and A. is not, even though I could watch it without having nightmares or getting freaked out. I know it like I know that you like old rap music.

This would probably be a lot clearer for you if we were talking about child, well I don't even want to type it, but you know. Would curiosity be a good reason to watch that? No, b/c it's disgusting, revolting, and terrible. Now, is THAT so much more terrible than what the guy described in the snuff film? Why is one clearly wrong and the other not?

I have more sympathy for kids than I do for a stranger. You can call that fricked up, but I cannot tolerate any crime against a child. I would never watch anything of the sort with a child in it.

If anyone has ever seen Anti-Christ, you'll know the scene I'm talking about. It's at the beginning when the kid falls out the window. The parents are in the act of fricking all over the house, and the baby wakes up, gets out of his crib, and falls out of a 3 story window.

Being a father, that part scared the frick out of me, and it made me anxious, in a bad way, to watch it. It fricked with my head a lot more than the snuff film did.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand what you're saying...but even you admit that it often gets you into trouble by pushing your personal beliefs as "right" and dismissing others that don't jive with you as "wrong." And that's more wrong than anything we're talking about in here.

I know you personally, and I know you're a good guy. But at the same time, if you were to decide to watch the murder of a child because it was something that curiously interested you, even at the most basic of human levels, I wouldn't look down upon you for doing so. But you clearly cannot say the same thing, because you (or at least it seems like you are) look down at me or Offshore because we choose to view such things.

And of course you're free to judge as you see fit, especially at a place like an internet message board. But you can't be shocked or upset when nobody puts any validity into your judgments, because they are made selfishly, and only selfishly.

And to clarify myself from Offshore...I am even including shite like snuff in my side of the discussion. All kinds of things interest me, intrigue me, fascinate me, etc. It's not limited to rainbows and puppy dogs...beheadings and torture and the unimaginable capabilities of human beings fall into that as well. And I don't think I should be labeled a bad person because of that, any more than I should be labeled one for liking something as simple as old school rap music.

But we are essentially going round and round at this point, and I'm about to leave anyway. And none of it matters either...nothing I say is gonna make you think it's okay for me to watch a greusome video, and nothing I say is gonna make you want to watch one or accept that I like to sometimes.

Just goes to show that no matter how fricked up your vision is, you can always find desperate actors to bring it to life.

I think I also fall into the morbid curiosity camp. I know this movie is going to be disturbing, but I'd have no problem watching it just to see what it's all about. After 25 years on this earth and all the things I've been exposed to, it'd be safe to say that I've been thoroughly desensitized.

Son of a bitch. I never thought to look for it on demand. I'm gonna check it out as soon as the kids and wife are in bed. I'm gonna start around 9. See you back here after.
