Jesus, what did you people make me watch? I gave it a shot based on this board's opinion.
Don't get me wrong. It's a great movie, but my god. It's just gut-wrenching tragedy porn. I can't believe that those people went through all of that. I looked at the clock, saw there was only half an hour left in the film and thought to myself, 'well, all of the worst parts must be over.' Wrong.
I was glad that they ended it the way they did with the real family prospering on the farm. That made me feel a little better.
Also, is that makeup or does Zac Effron really look like that now?

the real story is actually worse.

i didn't see it but he had a new show on netflix that everybody was hating on commented on it.
he broke his jaw and then overdid the plastic surgery afterwards.

there was another brother that wasn't in the movie that also committed suicide (Chris)

Yeah, they didn't really cover the death of the first kid, who electrocuted himself on a trailer hitch then drowned in melting snow, but was the little kid up in heaven, and skipped over another brother's death as well just because it was overload (and he didn't do as much wrestling wise)

He just moved back to Texas last year after living out on Kauai for like 20 years basically as just an escape. I think him having his kids saved him from going in that same direction and who would've blamed him really

I read the wiki a while back. It’s such a tragic story that the movie didn’t cover the death of another brother.
Zero chance I’ll watch it. It’s just too much

I thought it was great, but I'll never watch it again. They saved the biggest gut punch for the last few lines.

The movie left out another brother who died b/c it was just too fricking sad.
and the end w/the kids hugging him?
anyone who isn't devastated by the end needs to go see a shrink.

That movie was probably the best movie I watched last year and I do not even like wrestling. That movie is going to be considered an under the radar classic in 15 years.

Makes you really appreciate your kids after watching that movie. Depressing movie no doubt.

the only performance i liked was the Dad.

I read the Wiki after watching the movie. i was shocked to see there was another brother that committed suicide and that wasn't even in the movie.
Also, that the mom and dad divorced.
pretty sad but a good movie

I think it’s a weird movie as the main guy in the movie came out and was like “my dad’s great, not sure why this movie was so harsh on him”

Haven’t seen the movie but there are a lot of older guys who nhad pretty hard dads and don’t say anything about it.
He blames the drugs and the feeling of letting everyone down, which is probably an upbringing issue.

I don't think Fritz was anything atypical for a 70s/80s Texas father. A lot of what was considered tough love then is very frowned upon in this soft world.

Ww watched this last night and, even knowing what was going to happen going in, still wasn’t prepared. I think my wife, who went in blind, went through half a box of Kleenex.
I told her afterwards that I don’t generally subscribe to the belief in curses, but it was hard to explain that much tragedy and grief in one family. She responded, “did you watch the movie? I imagine there was probably some mental illness and severe depression going on in that family, topped with a father that could probably drive even the soundest-minded person over the edge.” I said, “yeah, that’s the fricking curse!”
Very good movie, but rough watch.

It's a good movie but yeah it is kinda depressing.

Yes, very good movie, but depressing as hell. It's one I know I will only watch that one time.

It’s interesting that you can tell who watched WCCW as a kid and who didn’t because those who did can’t not mention how bad a casting job Kerry was, physically speaking. I mean, the actor did his best, but Kerry was a beast.
