Maybe people are ready to see an actual suspenseful Mummy movie, as opposed to a Raiders Of The Lost Ark retread with the word "Mummy" in the title. IMO The Mummy should have more in common with a movie like The Relic than a big-budget action flick, but that's just me...

Is this one campy or humorous like the first one? I enjoyed the Brenden Fraiser franchise

Seriously. It's the Universal Monsters franchise. The first one was in 1932.

It made $174 million worldwide this weekend. It's production budget was only $125 million. So it's going to turn a profit. Universal's Dark Universe looks to still be on track despite the movie disappointing in the United States.
Just to show you how well this movie did overseas, this is the best opening weekend for a Tom Cruise movie....ever.

I didn't know this was one in the same. Just an FYI: I'm sure I am not the only one in the world that didn't know this

It should be his biggest opening ever considering it opened in every single international market but two at the exact same time. That's not the norm at all. Usually releases are staggered.
Perhaps tank was too harsh but unless it has serious legs (which I doubt) it's going to barely double it's production budget to eek out a small profit which generally is never enough to continue a series.
It would have to crush on home video or Universal would have to be too married to the Dark U being a success for them to continue.
Remember, Dracula Untold was originally supposed to be the start of the Dark Universe. It was made on a $70 million budget, got better reviews than The Mummy, and made $217 million world wide in theaters and $18 million in domestic video sales. Even though it ended up making a modest profit it still got flushed out of Universal's Dark Universe plans b/c that was considered a failure in their eyes.

Edge of Tomorrow is and endlessly re-watchable awesome action movie. And Cruise was great in it.
And I will check out The Mummy simply because it is a Tom Cruise movie. These people bashing Cruise only wish they a tenth of the success he has had.

Edge of Tomorrow is a good Cruise flick but it is hardly re-watchable.

This is Tom Cruise's On Golden Pond moment.
That's a terrible analogy.

I could live comfortable off a tenth of Tom Cruise's bank account.

He has to be worth hundreds of millions, if not a couple billion by now. The figure is probably more like one half of one percent than ten percent.
