Which begs the question: where does her life go after winning everything by 22 in the time of times to be alive, the late 60s?

I just hope she pays Jolene back.

and while fiction the book tracks very similar to Bobby Fisher

Eh, not really. The only real similarity is the cold war zeitgeist.

Would have liked to see how that morning scene unfolded.

I read the book yesterday.

She was eight when she arrived at the orphanage, 13 when adopted, nineteen when she beat Borgov. I’m guessing the series added in that two year subterfuge because the actress was better suited to aging from 15 to 21?

The book definitely says she was 8 in the orphanage (just read chapter 1).

I swear to god I think the show at one point says she was 8 and at another point says she was 9. I'm not going to rewatch it just for this detail, but I specifically remember hearing one or the other and being confused because I thought I heard the other before.

Her ascension throughout the series was striking. She went from homely with the Prince Valiant haircut to beautiful. Loved her elegance and the outfits were gorgeous on her.
And when she was dancing to “Fever” I’ll have to admit that “it moved.”

I totally agree, which is partly why I struggle to find the perfect word to describe her looks. I wouldn't call her sexy (she never caused it to move), another poster I think fairly opined that she might be better characterized as "striking" than "beautiful", but then even striking isn't perfect.

She's just sort of interesting to look at.

Maybe at some point the perfect adjective will come to mind.

One question I have: did Deardorff recognize her in her walkthrough of the orphanage and "you should be in chapel" was her nod to Beth? Or was it to show she was actually so beaten and disconnected from the girls that she didn't remember one of the girls that came up there?

This was my take.

With Dierdorf, I feel like the author/writers couldn't quite figure out what to do with her. They sort of couch her in a bad light even though she really wasn't all that bad at all.

Wow, that was great. Haven't enjoyed TV this much since justified. It was like I was watching a feature film the entire time.

I guess there is no chance of a season 2? No where really to go from here
