The Six Triple Eight

The Six Triple Eight is a good story to tell and I’m glad that movies about the WAC are being made. I hope people who do watch this movie will maybe on their own look up more women in WW2 stories. As a movie though, this film is pretty substandard.
The opening battle sequence is laughable and looks like something from the Clone Wars. Perhaps the worst WW2 battle scene I’ve ever seen on film.
The main character is a good main character, and her story is compelling, but the actor stinks, and frankly most of them are pretty bad. But the script is terrible also, so who knows. The conversations between the characters were so awkwardly delivered it was hard to watch. Kerry Washington (still hot) and Oprah have fine acting résumé’s, but the lines they are expected to deliver are pretty terrible.
Every obstacle that they had to overcome was because of racism. Barely any mention was given to how they actually achieved their mission, except when they were confronted by racism. Which should obviously be part of the story. It’s WW2 after all and this is a unit full of black women. But their whole story can’t just be about overcoming racism. After about the 17th incident, I was good.
The best part of the movie was the last five minutes when the living veterans were being interviewed.
You can skip this movie. The subject matter, however, is very interesting and historically significant, so you should find a book or something.
Edited for clarity.

Anyway I watched it a few days before Christmas. It was fine. Dean Norris’s accent was ridiculous and I don’t know why Oprah was in this she was in one scene and I don’t think she had a speaking line

I wish there was a documentary on this, I'd rather watch that.

The wife and I watched it last week. Interesting story, decent movie, we enjoyed it.

Waiting for the movie about black cooks:
"Our fighting men in the field were promised chipped beef on toast -- and dammit, we're going to make it for them!"

It looks hilariously bad.
