but in reality the tv shows now a days blow this old shite out the water. Same crap as the older generation saying Michael Jordan is the best ever no matter what LeBron James does.
except that the new generation never saw jordan play.

Is it too soon in the thread to mention that Michael B. Jordan was first really noticed as Wallace in Season 1 of The Wire?

I also love how he says shows now a days. The Wire S5 was 2008

Prepare yourselves:
Season 5 of The Wire and Season 1 of Breaking Bad aired January through March, 2008.
Let that sink in...

Man I tried the series twice and couldn’t get into it. First time I made it 2 or 3 episodes. Second time I made myself watch the whole first season before I gave up.
I assume there is no hope for me if I didn’t dig the first season?

Absolutely. Art is subjective. While the consensus is that The Wire is one of the best shows of all time, I get how it isn't for everyone. The street slang. The ensemble cast - I mean, seriously over 5 seasons, at least 20 characters get pretty significant screen time, probably close to 200 speaking roles before all is said and done, with mostly unknown actors. That's out of some folks' comfort zone. Along with the street level slang/dialect, the humanization of what is perceived as "the criminal element" is a turn off to folks with more conventional taste.

The “frick” scene while investigating the girl cold case is an all time favorite of mine.

The character development is so amazing especially the characters that last for all 5 seasons, we see some grow and others stay the same

I'll admit that it is my favorite show of all time and that I "missed" it when it premiered. I didn't care for the people or the story. I then rediscovered it during season 3 and went back and watched it from the beginning. There are so many characters that they introduce in season 1 that it can be hard to become interested in them. Therefore my favorite seasons are
Tie between seasons 3 and 4
4 - the kids - how the cycle begins.
3 - downfall of B&B.
2 - the Docks ties in the drug angles.
5 - McNulty angle is unbearable, but I love the newspaper part on multiple rewatches.
1 - not that interesting compared to the others.

I don't think I've ever seen someone rank season 1 as their last. Also, you made it look like it's on a whole lower level from season 5. So, that's even more surprising.

Wow
I know I’m late to the series but it’s Great!
I’m on season 4 now. Season 1 was amazing, absolutely amazing. Season 2 dropped off a little then season 3 came back big. Just got to season 4, hope it lives up!
I'm actually with you on Seasons 1 and 3. People tend to get a boner over season 4, but i"m not sure I enjoyed it more than season 3.

I understood the problems on my first run - it's just jarring. Once you get past the jarring shift from Season 1 to Season 2 (and after you've watched the entire series once and dealt with the *ahem* "issues" with Season 5), you realize that Season 2 is as good or better than any other season, possibly excepting Season 1. But you have to have digested the entire series to fully appreciate that, IMHO.
The acting in Season 2 is stellar - some of the best in television history
I respect your opinion your opinion but just can't get on board with this logic. You have to watch the whole series and then rewatch season 2 in order to fully appreciate it?
I say frick that noise. It isn't bad, but it's a dropoff. It happens.

I feel like the general consensus -- and even David Simon has alluded to this -- is that getting through the first 4-5 episodes is the tough part, butif you make it that far, you're godo.
If you watched all of season 1 and still weren't feeling it then it might just not be your thing.

I personally believe the Wire is the greatest American work of literature from the last century.
I said the same thing in a thread about a year ago, but I took it one step further and called it the greatest piece of American art on any medium.
This is how I feel about True Detective Season 1.
