Roosevelt held Patton out until the Bulge and only put him back to save the day?
Why do people care, because they are just getting so much stuff totally wrong. Patton was held until the 3rd Army came active in Normandy in the Summer not on Dec 17, plus they did not mention Ike or Bradley even once, what started promising turned to total crap.

Never mentioned any of the admirals either. It was basically World Wars for Dummies.

Yep. A horrible series, hardly any better than America: The Story of Us.

Watched this whole series and really enjoyed it. I thought the first two were great, but I felt like they rushed the third part pretty bad.
It did make me wonder how often people actually stared out windows when they were deep in thought back then. I thought that was a bit over done.

The historical inaccuracies were inexcusable.

But even I noticed the historical inaccuracies like German soldiers shooting British weapons. It did seem rushed and hastily put togther. The moment when Patton met McArthur and gave that manly intro and handshake though...it moved
The historical inaccuracies were inexcusable.

Two things I noticed that irked me: The Midway code was broken in Hawaii. The History Channel showed it being broken in DC. And there was a German general with a full beard

Since it's on the History Channel and all

I haven't watched it, but it sounds disappointing from what y'all are saying. I think I will skip this and stick to the more in depth documentaries.

Dumbed down but I thought it was great
Bunch of you in this thread are picky as hell and could never be pleased

If this were an actual movie I wouldn't have minded the historical inaccuracies as much. But this was a documentary series on the History Channel. You would think they would favor historical accuracy a little bit more. They obviously care more about getting ratings than they do getting their facts straight. More power to them. Instead of presenting this as 100% fact, however, they should have put a disclaimer at the beginning of each episode where they explain that, in some cases, historical accuracy was sacrificed for dramatic license. I mean, holy shite, the opening scene of The World Wars was a scene describing the origins of Hitler's mustache. That alone should have told us where this thing was headed.
This was just like America: The Story of Us and that Gettysburg documentary Ridley and Tony Scott did for them three years ago.

They could have very easily made this a 9 part miniseries, divided into first World War, Between the Wars, and Second World War. Christ, Ive seen enough of Chum, that guy who tries to buy cars from people driving on the road, and the two dillweeds who go around picking.
It landed with a thud.

It was dumbed down so much they had a lot of facts wrong.
Saying Hitler diverted from Moscow to take Stalingrad made me stop watching.

So what are some good WWII documentaries to watch on Netflix?
I thought "The War" by Ken Burns was pretty great. It focuses on people from four American cities - Sacramento, CA, Luverne, MN, Waterbury, CT, and Mobile, AL - and tells their stories in context of the overall war.
I'm very ignorant of a lot that went on in the Pacific and it does a great job telling that story. I had no idea about the Philippines occupation, how brutal the Japanese were, and how dropping the bomb had to be done because every Japanese citizen - military and civilian - were willing to fight to the death.
I think it was six 90 minute episodes.

I just hope this is better than America: The Story of Us or that abortion of a documentary they did on Gettysburg two or three years back.
I liked this more.

Agreed. That was one part I don't remember learning.
