I enjoyed tonight's episode a lot, minus the Kate scene at the end obviously.

Randall and Rebecca always are good together. Loved Rebecca making him give Deja some time. Loved Randall lying to Kate and Kevin about what he told the cop. And when Deja said, "You're my only daddy."

This one was a great one. They really seemed to get back into their stride. It doesn't surprise me that Randall felt put out that Rebecca picked Kate, but when you look at his entire life, she's not once told him no.

His being able to see his mom as her own person was a massive gift to him. He might have been mad as hell at Deja for the stunt she pulled, but ultimately he'll see that trip with Becca as a core memory that will always stay with him.

With an eye to next week - I think Toby's preoccupied with the BGE and that's when Jack wanders off. Kate obviously goes ape, saying he's more interested in the smoker than his own son, chaos ensues.

My prediction is that they learn that Jack remembers the song about how to get to the park (that's where they find him) and everyone is amazed.

I wouldn't call it a great episode, but it was certainly better than any episode this season for me.

I'm glad Randall had that time with Rebecca. It will be important to him in the future.

I don't much care about Deja, so I just thought she was a jerky teen. She redeemed herself to some extent with the "Daddy" comment.

The BGE incident better be a good one because of the build up.

I'm just tired of them taking beloved members of our family and maligning them to advance their drama. Our Crock Pot dindu nuffin.

Yes, it's old which leads me to believe the whole thing is going to bomb and fizzle.

No problem. And what's funny, is my wife mentioned their famous cookies and literally 2 seconds later Randall got Rebecca cookies from there. Like I said last night, it got a fist pump from me.

Here's some more info on Eat N'Park:

Of course the Toby-Kate line is relatable for those who’ve been in a broken marriage/relationship. Once that ship sails with bitterness and resentment rearing up, It’s hard to turn it around. And takes a lot more effort and soul searching than simply “talking it out.” While a depressing storyline, it’s well written for the most part.

Had a problem though with Kate taking some of the blame at first and then dumping it all on Toby later. With the brothers standing guard, made it even more cringeworthy. Thought we were supposed to like this family.

Kate is so insufferable.

Yeah, she's screaming at Toby for not being there enough to get into the habit of closing the baby gate, yet she's the one who not only left the front door unlocked in this one instance, she's TEACHING A BLIND TODDLER TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. She's there every day, and she dropped the ball, too.

I get it that Kate's their sister, but the standing over her like bodyguards was over the top.

I'd bet money that Chrissy Metz hasn't seen her knees in 20 years.

Kate garbage as usual

Bitching at Toby incessantly in front of her family, refusing to take any blame, and then hiding behind her brothers

And yes shame on Toby for researching surgeries that could have helped Jack. What a horrible person.

Maybe if she wasn’t bitching at Toby for about the 100th time that day he would have been able to hear the gate

Also…Earth to Kate. People usually have preventative methods to keep toddlers from opening the front door instead of actively teaching them how to open the front door

I want to say Kate is well written but I honestly think the writers want us to sympathize with her and root for her. That’s why they give us the ending of her with Phillip. Frankly in reality he’s have nothing to do with her unless he’s marrying for a green card or something.

He should jerk off to BBW porn instead … not worth having to listen to this banshee bitch all day everyday at home. .

OMG, yes! Nobody teaches their child that's barely past being a toddler to unlock and go in and out of outside doors! 100% they are both at fault in many things. The whole Jack thing could have happened just as easily with a seeing child as a blind one.

I don't think it's a story of how you're supposed to feel sorry for any of them or root for Kate. I also think it's very well written. To me, the whole series is a story of a family. In the beginning, things look perfect. It looks like all their problems were because Jack died when they were young. It looks like he's the perfect father and they're the perfect family. Then, each year, they delve a little more into the backstory of the family and the kids. To me, it's about how no matter how perfect things seem, they really aren't. It's about no matter how much you love your kids and want to do the right thing by them, you're flawed as parents and sometimes the things you do aren't taken by your kids as you intended. It's about how your destiny isn't determined by your parents or family, or at least, it shouldn't be.

I see Kate as not really having grown yet. She's still stuck. I do think the writers want us to see her grow, but they've not left time to do it. I wish they'd done this story last year and given more time to her growth this season. We really shouldn't have Hailey, but they wanted a 2nd Big 3. I hope we see Kate grow to be an adult and not depend on her brothers. I'm not sure there's time for that anymore. That's why a weight loss story for her would have been great. Kind of an ending of how the Big 3 all finally grew up and got their shite together.

Toby wanted to keep his child safe and provided for. Kate wanted to see him soar. They don't talk. That is all. But it does appear that Toby is still trying and Kate has given up on their marriage. Once one person gives up, it's over.

Bam, just hit me. This is all a parallel to Kate and her life.

Kate and Toby have a kid that's blind. Toby looks for ways to try to fix it. Kate looks for ways to normalize and accept it.

Toby has depression and looks for ways to fix it (ie the gym, a better job, dressing nicer, gaining confidence, providing for his family).

Kate gains a metric ton of fat and looks for ways to normalize it and accept it.

Kate resents Toby for bettering himself and trying to better their child's situation.
