10 more episodes is a lot.

Well, 9 now.

There's one more each of Kate & Randall-centric episodes, which only leaves 7 to wrap up the whole thing. It's not a lot, in the grand scheme of things if you look at all of the ground that has to be covered:

-Miguel & Rebecca's courtship
-Completing the Dream Cabin
-Kate & Toby's Divorce
-Kate & Limey's courtship
-Blind Jack's accident with the Big Green Egg
-Randall's rise as a political phenom
-19 more sad montages w/ Cat Stevens music

That's a lot, considering Fogleman's narrative style. At 42 mins an episode, that's 6.5H of run time.

I thought it was 9 plus the finale. Finale is on May 24th and there's an episode every Tuesday until then. Two more in March, 4 in April and 4 in May.

You forgot:

What happens with Deja and Malik?
Sophie's return or not?
Can blind Jack now see?
Rebecca's death-does Jack meet her in heaven or is Miguel already in heaven too-do they fight over her-has she forgotten both of them..........?

Kate & Toby's Divorce -Kate & Limey's courtship

Feels like this next one in San Fran may be the one where they finally decide to separate ( just my hunch where they finally admit it’s over and it’s not working )
You’re right I forgot about the Brit and Kate have to get together and date and get married again.
Curious if we see that scene again of Kevin and kates wedding with the mysterious woman’s clothes ?

Seems like a finale type reveal of the wedding and who the mystery woman is, all leading to the her showing up to the cabin and Rebecca dying and the show ends

The only one of randles kids I care about their story . Also, the other 2 kids have been backburnered, as you mentioned with so much ground to cover they’re isn’t room for filler anymore

So here is what I think we get.

3/22 - Kate's episode - Kate and Toby's divorce story - tiny flash forwards, but not enough to get Kate and Limey's story
3/29 - Randall's episode - A little Deja, a little teen Randall, maybe a brief glimpse of the future.

4/5 Miguel and Rebecca's courtship and marriage
4/12 - 100th episode - maybe lots of flash backs with a few flash forwards

The rest -

I think the reason the show has struggled this year is that rather than just developing it's story, they've been much more focused on the big reveal. There's so much secrecy about who is Kevin with and Kate/Toby/Phillip, that instead of just letting the stories develop as they normally would, they've been focused on tiny clues or misdirections because they want the big reveal.

It would be a better story to just tell us some of these things sooner and let us enjoy them...like Kevin with his kids growing up and his wife/wedding or Kate's courtship with Phillip, Randall's rise in politics or Kevin's career path. By waiting so long, we will only get tiny pieces of these rather than really learning it the way we should. It's not so much that the show has lost it's story, etc, but that by stringing us along too long, we really will only get a tiny bit of the story instead of fleshing it out the way they've done for years.

I think we get this on the 2nd to last episode and the finale will be almost all deathbed. I'm sure I'll need an entire box of Kleenex.

Nobody is mentioning that there is a possibility that Kevin is with NO ONE during that final scene.

Everyone is so focused on Sophie Cassidy or Madison, but I’m thinking he ends up by himself at the final scene with Rebecca.

I really like the Kevin that we are seeing in these last couple of seasons. But this episode was pretty "meh".

I do hope he ends up with Sophie. She really was his one true love. He's tried with others, but he's never forgotten her and knows how badly he screwed up.

Next week the writers will try every trick in the book to get me to like or have sympathy for Kate.

Ain't happening.

That flash of fat Toby, was it a flash back or a flash forward???

ALso, how is it possible for a human to be shaped like Kate is shaped? There has to be some kind of fat suit on under her cloths right??

My interpretation of the limited footage is that’s a flashback to the “good days” from Kates perspective back when Toby was super fat too before he had his heart attack and before he started exercising .

If that's the case. And Kate is whining that she misses fat Toby. Then even more I want her to die choking on a ham sandwich.

I think that would be a great ending. However, in a flash forward at Rebecca’s deathbed, when he took the food or hugged someone (maybe Beth), they made a very explicit point of showing him wearing a wedding ring.

I agree that Kate is horribly and unhealthily fat. I am not an it’s all good person. But your comments are really too much. Did you have more compassion for Kevin’s alcoholism? What about Nicky being an alcoholic, near suicidal hermit all these years? She has an addiction as well. I don’t always like her character, but most people that fat are depressed, have other mental illnesses, and are addicted to food. It’s not like you just stop. She needs a lot of help.

Also, I don’t think she misses fat Toby. I think she misses the good times. She’s got most of the fault for it as well. It’s interesting though, because in the FB fans group, lots of people think Toby shouldn’t have taken that job. They think he should be “helping her”or that they should have taken Kevin’s money. Both those are just wrong. She needs to grow up and put on her big girl panties (pun intended) and suck it up. Life isn’t just sunshine and roses. Yes, she’s had troubles, but so does everybody.

She definitely IS pressuring him to be fat again. I think it was last season when Toby was really getting fit and losing weight she said some passive/aggressive stuff about it. It was clear that by him losing weight and getting healthier, she was feeling more self conscious about her own weight and didn't like it.

Add to that the whole dynamic of how the writers originally wanted Kate to lose weight, and were willing to pay for a trainer, nutritionist, and anything else Chrissy Metz wanted in order to lose the weight. But then the fat fricks that are our society now screamed and yelled about "fat shaming" and shut it down, and I have zero sympathy for her character, or the "fat is beautiful" cult.

I'm not at peak fitness, I have been in the past. I know what it takes to get there. And I understand that lots of people struggle with weight loss. But her situation is beyond acceptable, and the reason the actress is still fat (pressure from the fatty community) is something out of Clown World.

All of that contributes to my comments being "too much". I know they are harsh. And in real life, I wouldn't come down that hard on a person that was over weight. But the whole "message" of her character pisses me off. And hell, they aren't even trying to make her likeable now.

Early in the series, they established she blamed the antidepressants she began taking after Jack's death on her weight gain.

I agree with everything you wrote. Kate’s completely insecure. She’s got tons of issues that she’s refusing to deal with.

I hate what the cancel culture did with Kate’s weight story. She wanted the role and was willing to do whatever to lose weight. Having all the big 3 healed from their emotional traumas at the end with a slimmer and healthier Kate reveal would have been the best ending!

I think the story of anti depressants, whatever is certainly blame and avoidance of the real thing on Kate’s part. She (Kate) and Chrissy Metz are obviously food addicts. It’s impossible to keep that many pounds on (gotta be close to 400, right) without binging on extremely unhealthy things. She has to take in thousands of calories.

Actually dealing with the literal elephant in the room would have been a much better story than acting like it’s not there.

Yeah, the Healthy At Any Size wackos are a public health threat. It's not normal to be the size of a baby hippo.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but this season, the supposed emotional moments just aren’t hitting as hard.

I think they did a good job with Cassidy's story on the last episode and it added a lot to Kevin's character and who he is trying to become. I know he ends up with someone, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it is her.

It reminds me of Lost. They built it up so much for a total letdown.

I hope that doesn't happen here, but I can see it.

I think the reason I wouldn't go with a LOST comparison is that Fogleman went to NBC with a 6-season arc before the pilot was greenlit. It was always going to be 6 seasons, so long as the ratings warranted it. That's why 4-6 were approved together.

It was painfully apparent after a couple of seasons that D&D had no idea, for lack of a better term, how to land the plane.
