But her's wasn't the only motives I had issue with. Why did they think they were going to get arrested after killing the pilot? His new "tongue" would've done a decent job of backing their version up, not to mention his autopsy which would completely back them up. Plus why get rid of his body when they could use that to warn people?
Also does their world not have the concept of vampires? I understand in real life it'd be hard to come to that conclusion but after what they've seen that thought should come up rather than sticking with thinking it's a contagion.

at the very least, i figured they'd be arrested for trespassing or interfering with the investigation....weren't they suspended from duty, or something like that? plus, knowing what they know now, they might not feel too secure (not yet, anyway) about the motives or intentions of anyone wielding authority....

The Ansel/Ann Marie storyline goes on for a while in the novel. They basically condensed it all into one episode. I felt really sorry for Ansel in the book because he was only doing what he could to keep his family safe, and he felt a lot of remorse over killing the dogs.

Palmer uses his influence to pretty much cause a media blackout so people don't know the virus is spreading. He also manipulates the evidence to make Eph and Nora into fugitives. They go a lot more into it in the second book.
