I don't. not enough emotion in his voice. he was very matter of fact. no way he would be that calm talking about his girls being kidnapped.
you got a point but its nearly 20 years later after a loveless marriage

This show can't really fit in any kind of genre.
It has a little bit of everything.
We have no idea how far down the rabbit hole this thing is gonna take us.

Perhaps he finds a copy of "The King in Yellow" and reads it, thus going insane.
That would be so silly.

I think it's obvious by his changed demeanor in the two timeframes that whatever was discovered greatly affected him. He doesn't have to actually find one specific thing but, figuratively, he "reads The King in Yellow" during this investigation, IMHO.

The tone is similar, a supernatural vibe without it really being about the paranormal, at least up to this point, it could veer into actual paranormal of course but I kind of hope it doesn't.

God I hope not. We don't need anymore vampires or werewolves.

I was more talking about voodoo, curses, and out of body type shite but I feel we are more likely just to see some jacked up fringe type religious zealot type folks.

I think they are just alluding to a spiritual battle (good/evil) and not supernatural, aka aliens or what not)

Also for anyone who doesn't have hbogo, google 1channel and you'll be able to search for True Detective links.

Chole and Hart are the same person.
I seriously doubt that. Would suck.
However, the vastly different settings on which they are being interviewed is peculiar. The detectives would typically bring you in for a taped statement with a video setup like that. What is the significance if the differences in setting? Do they just live in different towns now, or is there something more to it?
