Yeah the same Bud Kilmer that cared so much about his players he guilted a heavily concussed teenager into playing when he had no business at all out there.
The same Bud Kilmer that was openly racist and refused to help his starting running back get to the next level
The same Bud Kilmer that threatened to tamper with a student's transcript.
what a great guy
As opposed to Mox, who'd rather read at a game instead of focusing on his role as a backup. The same guy who didn't take the scout team seriously by running plays from MVS that the defense would never face. Who went way too far with his injured best friend's girlfriend while he was still dating the same best friend's sister. Think about that. Lance is sitting in a hospital room, watching his future go down the drain, while Mox is getting his little brother to buy him condoms so he can cheat on Lance's sister with Lance's girlfriend. Who jeopardized the entire season by organizing a strip club party the night before a game.
Was Kilmer perfect? No, in fact he was idolized a bit much for a coach who only won 2 titles in 30+ years. Was he a racist? Can't blame him for putting the ball in the hands of his 5 star QB when they get into the redzone. Anyone who knows football knows that its easier to defend an offense in the redzone than at any other point on the field. Concussions? Keep in mind this was the 90's. Attention to head injuries was nowhere near what it is today...especially at the high school level.
Seems to me that Kilmer is looking out for the greater good of the team and for the town instead of Mox, who is out for himself and seeks to destroy the very things that his friends & family cherish.

NEVER thought about Varsity Blues that hard... I doubt the screenwriters even thought about it that deep.

Neither did I until I read some article about it a few years ago and didn't really plan on getting that deep into it until Drac decided to join in the discussion.

He gave it to a 5'3 Wide Receiver on sweeps in the redzone.
