Both are amazing pieces of film - I can't say Strangelove was Kubrick's best (2001, Full Metal Jacket), but way up there

I agree. Dr. Strangelove is my favorite of Kubrik's movies, but it is not quite as well done as say, A Clockwork Orange or Paths of Glory. Barry Lyndon may be his "best" film.

I just love George C. Scott's inspired overacting. It's spectacular.

12 Angry Men - possibly the greatest cast ever, all at their best.
The Day The Earth Stood Still
The Birds
Cool Hand Luke
Dog Day Afternoon
Jaws
Office Space

and of course, the 'shank.

You know Scott was pissed about that, right? He would do a number of normal takes, and Kubrick would encourage him to do "just one more, but make it over the top" - those are the ones that made it into the final cut. He felt like Kubrick made him look like a clown.

But the movie was better, I agree. Scott was wrong and Kubrick was right.

No I didn't know that. But it makes sense if Scott was a pretty pro-military guy (I don't know if he was or not, but he did play Patton, so I'm assuming he at least had a level of respect for the military). The overacting makes the movie because it plays into the message of the movie - the military is filled with idiots. It's very Catch-22-esque, which is partially why I like it so well.

I've watched Trading Places three times this week. I don't regret a thing.

He wasn't. However, he felt the overacting made him look foolish. He understood it was a farce about the Cold War, MAD, etc. He wasn't above doing the comedy, but he just disliked the finished product. He also felt like Kubrick tricked him into it (which was, to a certain degree, true).

The Last Samurai

before i saw it it looked terrible. Tom Cruise becoming a Samurai? Really?

It was really great though. On my top 15 of all time.

Toy Story. I don't care for the series but the animation of the original still looks fine and that was like 1995
