Since we are on war movies and because I don't want to start another thread-the scene where the German soldier is clicking his lighter but the American thinks it is the cricket clicker sound, is that from "The Longest Day"?

Yes, it was. But not quite like that.

Sal Mineo clicked his cricket and got two clicks in response. He then stepped out and was immediately shot dead. His dying words: "Two clicks...I heard two clicks!!!" We then see a German soldier step forward and slide the bolt on his Mauser forward with a "click-click" noise.

I'm wondering if the people who post Thin Red Line have ever seen Windtalkers?

Yes, I have. But the fact that "Windtalkers" was so bad doesn't in any way detract from the suckiness that was "Thin Red Line".

Would Starship Troopers qualify as a war movie?

It's the first thing I think of when somebody mentions crap of any kind. Sci-fi crap. Alien crap. Teen movie crap. Even war movie crap.

Windtalkers gets my vote. Twice, just because I meant to pick up We Were Soldiers and somehow left with that forgettable piece of shite. I wanted to put it through a shredder after I watched it but didn't want to pay anything extra to replace the copy.

You shut your G-Damn mouth! I will hear no more of your vile calumnies against such a work of art as Starship Troopers.

And I'm going to add my vote to Windtalkers. Total garbage.

Late for Dinner (Walked out even with a date)
New Jack City (Walked out)
SuperNova (Walked out) - I am still embarrassed that I asked my dad to go see this when he came to visit several years ago. We needed a movie to see during the holiday and I picked this. Worst movie ever!

Starship Troopers is fun.

If you thought it was bad you would probably gnaw your left foot off while watching Part II & III. Those were really bad. And for some reason some of the actors that were fine in I somehow forgot to act for III.

Born on the 4th of July. When Tom Cruise put on those dress blues with his faggy hair and sideburns, I didn't know who I wanted to punch first, him or Oliver Stone for creating that scene.

Thin Red Line is my favorite movie ever. Many hated it and called it slow but I liked the imagery and writing. I really didn't want it to end. My father who was a WW2 B-17 pilot liked it too and thought it did a good job of portraying what went on in guys' minds when at war back then.

I watched 2 minutes of Windtalkers and thought it was corny as shite.

I'll have to agree. I was real psyched about watching this movie because of the reviews. To tell the truth I do not really remember what it was about but I remember it was long and boring.

It wasn't meant to be taken literally chief. I know that most people don't like Thin Red Line Its not the typical war movie.

quote:

If you mean depth as in...a never ending abyss of boring meaningless narrative dialogue while at the same time attempting to make one feel enlightned by the glistening of a tree leaf or a bird in the tree or the sounds of the forest for 3 goddamn hours, then yes it had depth.

I advise you to watch the film again and actually listen to that "meaningless narrative diaglogue" and you'll find that it is anything but.

I can understand people not liking the movie, everyone has different taste, but to imply that Thin Red Line does not have depth or that it is "pretentious", as someone else called it, is quite ludicrous.

As much as I hate Sean Penn, and you have no idea how much that is, he was brilliant in this movie. Nailed his character.
