i liked it. Some of the other characters actually outshine Sheldon.
Meemaw, the dad, the brother, the mom and even the sister at times

Wife and I watched it earlier this year and it was great. Never saw the appeal or liked Big Bang Theory, so never tried to do a watch through.
The wife and I both had clips of the show pop up on our tiktoks and thought it was interesting. Hated Sheldon at the beginning, but got better as the seasons went on, also the mom was aggravating but got better.
But MeeMaw, George Sr, Georgie and missy is what really made the funny and watchable.
Wife and I both agreed to give the spin off a chance when they are finished the first season…………. But the live set recording and laugh track is a very big turn off.

My family loved it, especially my teen daughter. Missy and Meemaw are hilarious. I think everyone was cast perfectly.

Meemaw & Missy make the show.
Georgie is annoying as hell, IMO. He's not funny in YS and he's not funny in his new spinoff with Mandy. Growing up where I did in NW Georgia in the late 80s/early 90s where every teenage boy was a mullet-sporting, semi-retarded hick, so it doesn't shock me that his character is grating to me.
Mrs. Vox and I love TBBT, but her best observation about Sheldon hasn't ever been picked up by anyone else that I've seen: Sheldon and Penny have the relationship that they do in BBT because she's so much like his grandmother. And don't come at me with that one-off horse shite where June Squib played her. #NotMyMeeMaw
They could've resolved the George Sr. paradox they created with the unreliable narrator situation from Sheldon in BBT if they'd simply added a line or two in the YS series finale where he admits to the reader of his memoir that he's been narrating for the whole series that the death of his father hit him so profoundly that it hurt too much as an adult to admit that he was a good father, a great provider and was always there for him when he needed.
As a result, it was easier to portray George to his friends as an angry drunk who didn't do much for the family.

unlikeable characters
The fat woman from next door
the pastor
the other church guy with the stache
the fat kid from next door was funny at times
oh and the show gave us this chick

I thought he mentioned something like that (maybe I need to rewatch it) but it's at least heavily implied the last 2 episodes.
And someone who hates BBT but has been forced to watch over the years as the rest of the family loves it, I very much enjoyed YS. It's grounded for the most part, they nailed the late 80s-90s middle class dynamic, and spending so much time in East Texas growing up you can instantly identify with the town and setting.

The actress who played Veronica leaving for that Yellowstone prequel series really messed up Georgie's story arc, IMO. Having him get a girl who's almost 30 pregnant is dumb.

He talks about not necessarily appreciating his dad as much as he should have, but it doesn't explain why he portrayed George as a worthless old drunk to his friends and his wife.

As a dad of an 11 year old daughter I loved it. We STRUGGLE to find new shows we can watch as a family that we all enjoy. I would love any other recs yall may have. We don't really like the laugh track stuff and have watched the office, modern family, parks and rec.

He's autistic so he interprets things differently. To him dad always drinking a beer meant he was a drunk. Plus when he considered a drunk might be a much lower standard than others

inda has a Wonder Years-esque feel to it but more comedic.
I was about to post the same thing.
A mix of BBT and Wonder years. Some episodes are just strict comedy. Some have the nostalgic "feel good" aspect to them.

I've only caught an episode here or there of YS. I can't stand the brother's accent. I comes across as completely fake. Like the guy is trying to sound as hick as he can. It's too much

Sounds like he is from Walker

Sheldon portrayed his dad as a no-good, alcoholic piece of shite. YS doesn't portray George in that light at all.
I always saw it as a kid's view vs an adult's view of George. In some ways George was a POS but we saw it a bit sanitized like YS would have seen it. Sheldon as an adult understood it better.
I liked YS more than TBBT. I am on the fence about Georgie and Mandy's First Marraige. I liked their arc in YS but not sure it can carry an entire show. For me, it probably depends on how much they use Constance, Mary and Melissa.

I never really got into BBT but I enjoyed Young Sheldon

Sadly, it's totally real. Kid's a hick, IRL, complete with knocking up his girlfriend before he was old enough to drink.
