But let’s be honest, they had 1.5 good albums.

It was all down hill when Izzy Stradlin’ left.

I think Izzy was the glue but the entire band minus Axl were in the grips of addiction by the end of their run. It was unsustainable. Impressive how well Axl, Slash and Duff get along with each other now.

That album gets maligned largely because of how long it took to make, and of course, Axl's attitude. But, it's actually a great record.

Also because it didn't sound quite like what people expected from Guns N Roses. I feel like a lot of that would not have arisen if it didn't have the GnR name, and instead was Axl Rose's solo album or something.

I agree though about the album. It took me some time to come around but I like it.

Yeah, it's definitely not a classic Guns N Roses album. Tons of stylistic influences that diverge from the norm. When you have guitarists like Buckethead and Bumblefoot, it's bound to be different. I listened to the album yesterday because of this thread. It's a great record. I would like to see more music from this period released. I'm sure there's at least a couple more albums of material.

I have respect for OG GnR because they kicked the teeth of hair metal right out the door. But let’s be honest, they had 1.5 good albums.

Appetite is obviously much better than "good". The EP "Lies" has several classics on it. Both Illusions are obviously masterpieces. I wouldn't remove more than 3 or 4 out of the 30 songs on those. Chinese Democracy is great.

Let's not pretend they weren't a hair band for years.

Hair band? GNR was the band that came out that was the beginning of the end of hair bands. They changed the entire scene. Grunge finished off the hair bands with the kill shot.
