No one gives a shite about his guitar playing ability. You don't listen to Neil to hear him shred.
He isn't the most technically skilled, but he has some awesome, gritty and catchy guitar work throughout his entire catalog.

This. His unique electric tone shaped the sound of alternative rock. He is also an underrated acoustic player.

yeah, Ive always been a fan of his ragged style of playing... but i like noise, more so than clean guitar sounds...

DMB w/ Warren Haynes & Tim Reynolds - Cortez The Killer (The Gorge 9/3/11)
Around 10:00 is when the guitars start heating up.

This must be where I parked my car..
I'm a fan of Gov't Mule/ Haynes doing this song. Haynes with DMB is also a favorite of mine minus when dave sings.

has become a favorite for guitar-centric live performances throughout the years, especially in both jam band and alternative circles
I suspect the main reason for this, much like All Along The Watchtower, is that it is the same three chords over and over.
Pretty easy to cover and jam out.

Mule w/ sonny landreth at the Saenger this year.

Dave Rawlings does a good acoustic version.

Exactly. He plays guitar to complement his songwriting, which is some of the best ever. Not the other way around.

This isn't really completely accurate. May be true of Harvest and After the Gold Rush, but that's about it.
