I'm looking for an mp3 app that can play songs offline

I'm old school, so I don't have a paid membership to any music apps.
I used to use Google Play Music before they fricked it up and switch to the Youtube Music app - which is a tremendous piece of shite.
I've kept using Youtube Music because I already had a ton of music uploaded to it, and already had a number of playlists set up.
But, for LSU tailgating, for a big game, with so many people around the app will start buffering.
So, I'm looking for an app that is free, and will allow me to download music straight to my tablet and allow me to play music without having to have cell service or wifi.
Does such a thing exist?

I really have no idea. What's your hang-up on just downloading something like spotify for football season? They have promotions for 1 - 3 months free trial. Just get that and cancel after the season. You can download songs and play without a connection on Spotify.

Just use the built in Apple Music app. You have to use iTunes on a computer to make a playlist of all your MP3s or WAV files and transfer it via cable old school style. I write and record music and that’s how I listen to all those songs on my iPhone in the car.

That's an excellent idea. I assume its drag and drop once I plug the tablet into my laptop?

Not necessarily drag and drop. Once you get the playlist(s) the way you want them in iTunes, plug in the iPad and check the boxes next to the playlists you want to sync and hit the sync button. This link should help..
Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer

I have massive playlists in YTM that are downloaded.

Youtube Music allows you to play offline files If you open your Library, you can click the little down arrow next to Library and select Downloads or Device Files. You can't mix offline files with streamed files in playlists, but you can make playlists with Device files. I use it a lot when we're fishing offshore.

Just click on your account button in the very top right and then on "downloads".
