I never get tired of a playlist I have with all his songs on shuffle. Been on it for years. That is all.

Nah

His dad is like the top selling western author of all time and he sings songs bitching about how bad it is in America

Sorry I don’t listen to fake music

His dad wrote lonesome dove

Also he’s comparatively much worse than other guys in his time period like Robert earl keen

I guess that’s what happens when you’re born with a silver spoon in your mouth

I've seen him a few times including once when it was just him and his acoustic 12 string. He played choctaw bingo on that thing and it was awesome.

James is awesome

He's a pretty honest socialist IMO and knows he's playing for a lot of people who think radically different. He's much closer to the 60s protest musician that people like Isbell so desperately want to be.

Great storyteller.

McMurtry posted a YouTube vid during the pandemic called Gun Toting Libtards where he goes out in the woods and shoots things.

Yea he’s upfront about his leanings. I still like his music.

Looks like I will be seeing him in Denton next week. My Mom, who lives in Denton, called me about 2 of her GFI outlets that have stopped working so will be going up there next weekend and Saw Mcmurtry is playing at Dans, a little live music bar.

He's an example of not caring about someone's politics if the art is worthwhile. His father had a reputation as a major league a-hole when he lived in Houston, so he may not have fallen too far. But I still read his father's writings.

I played this song for my mom one time, and she said it reminded her of being in Houston with her grandmother: 12 O'clock Whistle on YouTube

I Love that song.
I Know he's trying to cut down on parts of our culture, but he reminds you of all the fun stuff.

All of this. His non-political material is so relatable. My grandmother drove a New Yorker instead of an Olds but otherwise he’s dead-on about Scott Street.
Here’s a couple more chip on the shoulder anecdotes:

James McMurtry is a legend.

“He’s more than just a decent man. Best friend I ever had. When you’re shooting at a coffee can, a .38 don’t kick that bad”
