I don’t know about that. Consider their glam origins.

Three posters have done this so far. Fortunately, all of them had Megadeth last on their lists.

It's noteworthy that the OP removed Anthrax from the equation, entirely. Are they essentially coattail riders when it comes to the original Big 4?

I think so, and I really like a couple of their albums. I always thought Belladonna’s vocals gave them a cheesy sound.

Definitely on the fringe. They had some good songs, but they were scattered amongst a whole lot of ok. Plus they really suck live.

The best of the metal bands outside the big 4 to me was always Testament. I thought they were better, overall, than Megadeth.

I agree. Give me John Bush era Anthrax over Belladonna, eight days a week.

Interesting way to describe them.

They were the best of the four in terms of pure musicianship, probably should have gone with some variation of that.

Testament is a great band, but no.

But were they so real, they’d never have denied their true selves to begin with.

Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer.

Exodus gets short shrift in these conversations though. I’d put them in the original thrash Big 4 over Anthrax.
Also, Megadeth did have one of the best metal albums of all time with Rust in Peace.

If Slayer were most influential, they influenced a lot of bands who didn’t amount to much.

My son, the 16 year old "metal expert" says:
Metallica
Megadeth
Pantera
Slayer

Hey, at least he's not listening to rap like all the clods around him.

I’d rate them behind Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden.

I love Slayer so I'd definitely have them as No. 1.
