I would argue that this isn’t true because when I was 14-18 I listened to shitty old bands like nirvana and Led Zeppelin and whoever the flavor of the month festival shitty bands like the killers and black keys and spoon etc (the same bands play festivals today) and whatever shitty foo fighters and whatnot came on 104 the x

All music isn’t bad. But pretty much

There are like 10 good songs ever. Two are from the oak ridge boys, 2 are king of carrot flowers 1 and 2, farewell transmission by songs ohia, Jamestown ferry Charley Crockett version, seven Spanish angels, unchained melody by the righteous brothers

Those are pretty much all the good songs. Prove me wrong, pro tip you can’t
ETA:
9. Barbara Ann - beach boys
10. The superbowl shuffle
ETA2: Dixie chicken

There is some good music out there, you just have to hunt for it.

Half the music I enjoy was recorded before I was born.

Half the musicians I admire are dead.

A musician I respect said that the widespread dissemination of music online and the numerous musicians making their music available has made it almost impossible to have unique or interesting music. I don't agree 100% but you do have to hunt.

An example would be Tank, which is music from some video game. Japanese big band jazz done right.

I didn’t care a whole lot for the music being made when I was 14-18(and I know I’m not the only one), so your broad brushing comment doesn’t hold much weight.

It's not true of me, either.

But the unavoidable fact is, it's true of 90%+ of people.

I believe you’re correct, but I doubt most of that 90% are posting regularly on a music board.

I mean, the closest thing the "new" machine has been able to create to a genre-crossing "superstar" since the death of the monoculture is Lizzo or maybe Doja Cat. Even then, it's extremely easy to never ever hear them or their music.

i think you are spot on, but not with you wouldnt ever hear their music. its all in commercials and all over social media. You might not know its their music, but you know the songs.

Like tha applebees song oreo shake. i have no idea who fricking sings it or have i ever actually listened to the song, but it was every where for a minute.

have never seen it worse than now.

Music didn’t suddenly get shitty, there’s always been great music and shite music in every single era. What’s happening now is a lot of y’all are way past the prime target demo for top 40 music as well as the nostalgia factor. Also music is far more accessible then it’s ever been before. All the streaming platforms, YouTube, social media, SoundCloud. With that comes underground artists and bands that may have never gotten a chance in older eras and with that comes a trade off because the worst of music is now way easier to find then it used to be

You're right, it's stayed consistent with the target audience.
Folks can complain all they want about what's out there, but the only real way to fix it, is to get on your guitar and write better stuff and put it out there. Raise the bar.

The jam band festival circuit is very much alive and well.

Commercially produced albums and radio/streaming music is horrific soulless garbage but live music is still very much alive.
