You are definitely a hipster. Urban Outfitters? Major lulz.

Just because a band is 'really really good' doesn't mean they aren't hipster. What, are you afraid of liking a hipster band?

I don't live in The Woodlands anymore. I lived there when my parents had a house there through high school but I've been downtown off of Kirby for the past few years.

If shopping at Urban makes me a hipster, so be it, but their sales are superior to most and I like that it's not just a single brand (like Express or Banana Republic) but they bring in multiple brands from around the country. I don't know of any other well-known store that does that.

That's the facade I want everyone to believe...it works perfectly into my plan.

Hipsters don't really drink PBR in BR from my observations around town.

More high life and bud heavy.

Hipsters tend to do drugs in BR as well.

The Decemberists.

Relatively non-mainstream but still somewhat accessible.
From Portland, Oregon
Chick in the band (who would probably be disgusted that I called her a chick)
Lots of non-traditional instruments.
Leader is a nerdy intellectual with glasses.
They have a concept album.

Sonic Youth was WAY before Nirvana

Sort of, but not really. Sonic Youth was instrumental in signing Nirvana and the two bands toured together. At first, Sonic Youth was the headliner, but as Nirvana blew up, they flipped. The bands were contemporaries, though Sonic Youth was clearly in the "elder statesmen" role.

I mean, Daydream Nation is 1988 and Goo is 1990. Nirvana released Bleach in 1989 and Nevermind in 1991. Hardly different generations there.

So why do you give Phish fans so much slack for supposed drug use while your little hipster buddies are fostering oxycontin addiction?

Sonic Youth is the one band I'm "supposed" to like that I really don't. It's been rehashed to death on here, but while I respect Sonic Youth, I like the idea of them more than their actual music, which I think is a chore.

A lot of their music is not aesthetically pleasing in the traditional sense so that's somewhat understandable. They are sort of the anti-pop counterbalance to The Pixies and jointly are IMO the parents of the kind of modern music we're talking about in this thread.
