One By One was a step back for them yet it has two of their best songs in All My Life and Times Like These. Between Dave doing QOTSA and them nearly breaking up around then, it was understandable.

I really enjoyed sonic highways.
Is it an amazing album, no. But the documentary on HBO really brought the album to life in my opinion. The documentary was very good and told great stories. But I also enjoy in the studio type videos about recording bands.

Same. These are the only two I listen to front and back without skipping. I enjoy songs on the other albums but IMO they hit their stride here.
