Dylan -- the classic Dylan of the '60s and '70s -- has never bothered me. But he clearly bugs other people.

Kristofferson singing Help Me Make It Through the Night is a strange experience for me - I love the song but his inability to hit the notes are distracting. Yet the imperfection hints of genius. To me it's reflective of the pain the singer/songwriter must recreate to forge such a classic. A slicker version wouldn't be nearly as emotional.

Cobain and Hetfield are both examples of average singing but great voices

There is quite a bit of soul in Boy George's voice. I find nothing wrong with his voice.
I would have to say IMO Tom Waits

Joe Walsh although his voice isn't what made him big, he is also one of my faves

Cornell causes me pain.

For me, Celine Dion. Excellent technique means little to me if my ears don't like the sound. Celine Dion is like blaring bugle squawk to my ears. Despite lack of any "proper" mechanics, Neil Young and Dylan are very musical and pleasing to my ear.

I can understand everyone on this list except Gregg Allman. I think Allman sings quite well.

I like the grit in his voice.
