Are we talking biggest star we've seen or best actual concert? For my taste most of the bigger acts did not hold a candle to the road warriors. Buffalo Springfield was pretty awesome

Summr of 1986 The Cure at Astroworld in Houston. The concert ticket price included admission to the amusement park. Two friends and I crammed in to my 1983 Toyota pick-up (bench seats, shitty airconditioner) that Saturday morning and drove to Houston from Baton Rouge. We stopped somewhere in Beaumont and bought 6 bottles of Boone's Farm Apple wine (I still don't know why).
We spent the day buzzed while riding all the rides at Astroworld. That afternoon we sweet talked the girl working the gate at Waterworld to let us in for free where we chilled out in the wave pool and then got cleaned up and changed in to our "concert cloths".
Three middle class white guys from Central wearing their "edgy goth" cloths had NO IDEA what we were in for. Houston people took the Cure emo/goth look to levels we would never imagine.
As the sun set over the ampitheater and the fog machine belched layers of fog across the stage where the cross winds spun it in to intricate patterns we were all blown away by the opening base line from "A Forrest". From there it just got better and better.
After the concert, exhausted, we piled back in to my truck and drove to Baton Rouge. I think we crossed the New Bridge tight about dawn.
I wish I could go back and bottle that trip. F'ing perfect.

I just made a post in another thread about how Astroworld use to get some pretty good bands to play back in the day. I saw Peter Murphy there.
That said, Love and Rocket with Jane's Addiction at Tipitina's in '87 was one of my favorite shows as far as small venues go. That was the night before I went to go see U2 at the LSU Assembly Center(yes, before it was called PMAC) on Thanksgiving night.
The Cult with Guns-n-Roses opening back in '87 was pretty good too.
Revolting Cocks at Numbers in Houston. I'm pretty sure that was '92.

RHCP jamming with the Meters at Voodoo a few years back was pretty wild

Was a great show. I feel like they did 4 encores that night (the last one being a jam session with the Meters).

I'm fairly certain this won't go over well but Garth Brooks in Nashville for the Flood Relief stuff, Dec '10 I think.
He puts on a hell of a show, even if you don't like his music. I love his music though, so his show was awesome.

I was at Tips that night too. And saw U2 the next day. Joshua Tree was U2's pinnacle. Everything since then has been a slow downward slide.

great place for a show especially when the weather outside is nice.
Saw Joan Jett there in august of 1988, sweated my brains out...but that was a great show.

Queensryche playing the entirety of Operation Mindcrime and Empire front to back in 1991 is way up there.
Most excited I'd ever been to see a show was Concrete Blonde touring for Mexican Moon because at the time it was supposed to be their last tour.
One that I knew nothing about going in and was blown away by was Cat Power.
ETA:
Lady Gaga is every bit the live performer that comes out on youtube concert clips. I was at the Christmas concert at HOB in NOLA the year her first album came out... and the mixing board went dead... so she sang a capella until it came back up. Lots of respect there.
Best "traditional music" concert I've seen was Sarah McLachlan and the Chieftains. Every moment they were on stage together was magical.

Johnny Cash at HOB New Orleans. Buddy and I were first ones in, stood at his feet the entire show, got him to sign a Life Magazine that he was on the week after I was born.
Saw Clapton there at HOB also and it is probably my second best.
Saw BB King several times at Club Ebony in Inianaola, Ms for his homecoming. Best one was when we were on the front again and as BB finished The Thrill is gone, he handed me his pick and walked off stage. We ended by eating catfish with the band at the bar
