LeBron James -- who the Lakers are listing in health and safety protocols -- is expected to miss several games, source tells ESPN. Players with positive Covid cases must be out a minimum of 10 days.

Players with Covid must be out 10 days, or return two negative PCR tests in a 24 hour period. For now, James will remain in the health and safety protocols.

The next 10 days they play:
Kings tonight
Clippers Dec 3rd
Celtics Dec 7th
Grizzlies Dec 9th
Thunder Dec 10th (First day he could be back)

Lucky for LA this is probably the best time in the season for him to get Covid with their large gap between games.

Without LeBron, all those teams except the Thunder are clearly better than them ... and the Thunder have already beaten them twice. They could lose 4 of those 5 games.

Kings blew a nice lead last night. But the Kings' problems are a different thread.

In 2018, the last full season, the 10th place team finished with 36 wins. For the Lakers to finish with 36 wins, they would have to go 24-35 the rest of the season. More than possible, just not likely. It'd be awesome if they finished 12th, won the lottery and we got a top 1 or 2 pick. We still get that pick, right?

Correct. If they win a top 4 pick it belongs to us. That’s exactly what the protection was meant to protect.

I don't know if there is a less likeable team in NBA history. Every loss is glorious.

Just in: Lakers star LeBron James has been cleared from health and safety protocols to return on Friday vs. Clippers, after testing positive but since registering multiple negative COVID-19 tests, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

Something seems fishy here

Sad that the Lakers thread is a constant trending thread on the Pelicans board.

Why not just focus on the Pels? I understand all the hoop la about draft picks etc but it seems like Pels fans can never just focus on the pels… more worried about bitching about other teams…especially the lakers

Because the Lakers having a shitty season determines whether we have a shot at keeping their draft pick or not.

Personally I was kind of hoping for a 70-12 season from them getting pick 30 that goes to Memphis, then they get knocked out of the 1st round, but since that's out the window every loss they pile up makes it better for their pick landing top 10 and us keeping it.

Most people on here love basketball and watch as much as they can of all teams. I like threads like this that explore the rest of the league..

To the guy who asked why should we follow the Lakers? Because frick the Lakers. They and the Nets are everything wrong with basketball. You can't be a fan of a small market team today and not actively root against the California and the New York teams.

ive hated the Lakers since they moved from mnpls but kept Lakers name. land of 10,000 lakes. then they took kareem from milwaukee after milwaukee won it all.
grumble.
id like to see a federal law. the name stays with the city region.
Jazz in Salt Lake.
jiminy frogging cricket.

the premise of thread began based on the pick.
it looks like it will be interesting. lakers schedule is the hardest from now on.

The 538 computer currently predicts the Lakers to finish the regular season 37-45, which their model predicts would be 10th in the West. But they give the Lakers a 31% chance of making the actual playoffs, because their computer likes the Lakers' chances in the play-in games, because of LeBron, Westbrook and AD's playoff experience.

However, because the East is stronger this year, a 37-45 finish would put the Lakers at 23rd overall, so if they didn't make the playoffs, then we would get that pick.

TLDR: the 538 model is giving us over a 50% chance of getting the pick. But I don't think that their model estimates the likelihood of a player becoming injured, so I think they are underestimating it.
