re: Did we trade Asik for Mirotic?

One of the complications with Mirotic's team option is that there could be a way for him to re-sign at a lower salary for more years (avoiding the tax) but Pelicans could not and would not commit to it now, so Mirotic bears all the risk.
Huh.
Does Dell seriously think we will be a player for a major FA this summer?

1) if we have Bird Writes on Boogie, why if the FO worried about resigning him?
2) steering the conversation in a different direction, I am definitely not complaining that we could possibly turn Asik + 1st into Mirotic, but is the fit next to AD going to be like? Because I seem to remember another stretch 4 on this team that didn't seem to really work

This reminds me of last year's Okafor posturing. We ended up with Boogie. The Pels have established, they can get Mirotic for Asik and a 1st. If they don't end up with Mirotic, maybe they trade for another star player like Kemba or Kawhi.I just hope they don't let this Mirotic deal slip away, unless they have a trade for a star lined up.

That stretch 4 was chucker punk that couldn't defend his own shadow.

If the pels leverage an Asik/1st for Mirotic deal into a Kawhi deal, Dell Demps would have to be considered the greatest GM in sports.

can they take on ajinca as well?

I don't see how trading an asset for a rental that we want to get rid of this offseason would make Boogie MORE willing to sign. Making the deal with the plan to keep Mirotic would be a much more appealing to me if I were Boogie.
I agree on this part - I would make the trade with the assumption that Mirotic is possibly part of the team's future. I don't have any sticklers on that part of it. But I still think winning this year and proving the team can have a winning culture is part of the process we need to go through to keep Boogie.. Because I think he could be lured away to go play with Lebron if he asked him to.

22 PER and shooting 43% from three, all while getting rid of a useless player on an awful contract. You don’t see how that would help us?
Posted on 1/30/18 at 3:31 pm to CocoLoco
Of course I see how it could help us. I was referring to the comparison between Ryno and Mirotic. The only real similarity in their game is the 3pt shot.

The current contracts on the books plus Boogie's $12 million raise puts you $2 million over the tax next year without replacing Rondo/Clark/Nelson/Cunningham/Allen. Swap Asik for Mirotic and now you're $3 million into the tax before making a single move other than resigning Cousins.

AD/Ryno required Ryno playing a lot of center on defense because of AD. Hopefully his bigger frame and having to play center full time more often have gotten him to the point where he'll grin and bear it for 15 MPG. That's all you need if Boogie is playing.

I guess everybody forgets the Boogie trade last year. I almost forgot where I'm posting, I was heckled a few weeks back for suggesting we trade for Mirotic.

Asik/Ajinca/Lottery protected 1st for Kawhi

Dell's very comfortable with paying major money for a not major FA.

For Boogie to resign, we need to win.
That reasoning makes zero sense.
We are a completely different team with him. he knows that, AD knows that, everyone knows that.
Thinking logically, whats more important is improving the current team. Trading Asik and a 1st for an expiring contract isn't improving the team next year. If anything, it makes them worse.

Tanking now would greatly (IMO at least) increase the chance of Boogie walking,
if we can't stay above .500 with the way Jrue is playing, and having a supposed top 5 player in the league, then we have bigger issues.
OKC lost Durant when they were 30-25, and finished the season going 15-12 with Westbrook and a bunch of role players. There's no reason we can't finish the season off going at least .500. Do that and you have 45 wins. If you don't make the playoffs winning 45 games, then oh well, that's still not a bad season.
We aren't going to all of a sudden become a bottom 10 team, unless we lose Jrue or AD for the rest of the season.

No one is heckling you. Everyone here would cry tears of joy if we landed Kawhi. It's just the Spurs aren't the Kings and even if they were, I don't think the devil makes deals twice for one soul.

My bad. Didn’t see you were talking about Ryno

that's not quite true
Net Rating ON together-
12/13 -12 in ~600 mp...team was -5.4 on season
13/14 +6.2, but in only ~300 mp due to injury..team was -3 on season
14/15 +6.6 in ~850 mp (Davis/Asik +5.1 in ~1200 mp) team was +.8 on the season
15/16 -2 in ~1150 mp (Davis/Asik -6.8 in ~700 mp) team was -4.0 on the season
those NETS aren't be all, end all stats. but Davis + a stretch big can work.
the problem is sinking too much money into that stretch big since Davis doesnt want to be a full time 5. Cousins is about as good as it gets next to Davis since he will guard the bigger 5s down low, but also be able to give Davis room to work in the paint.
but maxing out those 2 guys (+ Holiday's $25M) and then paying your 3rd big $12-$15M per year to play about 20 mpg makes for an interesting cap sheet

This trade should be looked at as an outlier. In no way, shape, or forum should we expect another one of these to happen. Anyone that had Hield could have made that trade because the owner thought he was the next steph Curry
