rivers got drafted off one big time shot.
we just got EG on a fresh contract, why get a similar skill set player? Oh wait, we were 'converting him to a PG'. He never had that vision, even in college. I watched enough duke games to know he needed at least 1 more year. I also had enough duke friends that said he was going to be a colossal bust if he went into the NBA. Looks like they were right.
I wasn't sold on the pick at the time, but everyone, Rivers included, available at 10 had serious question marks. If only Demps could go back and time and catch Monty before he ran to the podium and selected Rivers.

Rivers is 6.5 points in 19 minutes on 39% shooting 10.56 per. I fail to see the huge gap in which you are talking about.
5% shooting is the difference between jennings and his 38% shooting and kyrie irving's 43%.
big difference.

I really don't know. I haven't seen enough of Monty with equal talent to make a real judgement.

we've all seen enough. I scratch my head 1 too many times when it comes to Monty.
How many times this season, we had a hot streaking player only to be taken out. way too many.

A ton of people wanted to draft AR at 10,
I think most of us were pretty lukewarm about it and honestly didn't care because we had gone from thinking TRob and Kendall Marshall to AD and Doesn't Really Matter. I know I was pretty vocal in my concerns about drafting a SG that was terrible at catch and shoot, and a coach's son that couldn't hit FTs.

interesting tidbit. River's ft% (64.2%) is still not better than dwight howard's best (rookie season 67.1%)

Yeah, but he's making decent progress in the areas that were his 2 biggest question marks coming into the league. I don't see any obvious starters that we missed and I think he'll become a dependable backup. If I had a do over I'd give up an asset to move up to 8, I don't think picking anyone else at 10 would make that big of a difference in the long run. We're talking about bench players.

There is First Round George and Avery Johnson.
1131-756 career NBA coaching record (60%).
...25 seasons -- missed the playoffs 3 times.
...made the Conference Finals three times, Finals once...didn't do it in LA or BOS...did it in CLE, SEA, MIL, and DEN.
What can Hornets/Pelicans coaches claim over the 12 year history? You want to ignore Karl's proven success as a head coach if we had the opportunity to get him for this nonsense about not being able to get out of the first round?...or for Monty Williams??
...Karl had no trouble getting out of the first round in 2008-2009 -- destroyed our Hornets 4-1 (with a 58 point blowout)...DEN lost in the Conference Finals.

...those numbers are absolutely horrible...Lamb's numbers are not.

Also you guys don't think Lamb benefits from playing with KD and Westbrook? who would waste time to guard him?

Its not about who has better #s through 1 and 3/4 seasons, even though Lamb does anyways. Its about which guy has shown the ability to be a legit NBA player and has taken that next step and is developing nicely. Lamb has shown that. Rivers hasnt.
Lamb is getting legit minutes on 1 of the best teams in the NBA and is producing. Hes made some big plays for OKC as well. Rivers is playing just 17minutes a night for us. He is backing up Brian Roberts....
Its been obvious that Lamb has a bright future in the league, while Rivers is still mirky.

go look at the stretch of westbrook being out. he played well.

Lamb, Sullinger, or Jones (though I doubt he is as good in NO) all would have been better picks. Harkless is a maybe too, although he hasn't done much this season.
Rivers in the moment is defensible at 10. But given hindsight, it's been a miss so far. Still think Rivers can turn into a Mario Chalmers type and be quite useful off the bench. His catch and shoot numbers are better than Lamb's.

With Kevin Durant no one is worried about Lamb shooting corner 3's

True... But i dont think anybody is worried about Rivers... at all.

...plain and simple, Rivers' shooting numbers are horrible across the board...and this guy was supposed to be a scorer.
People are grasping at hustle and defense now, but he's just not good...he better take a HUGE leap in year 3 (which isn't unheard of) if he wants to be relevant in this league.

If I'm playing against rivers, I'm not afraid of him scoring.
I could simply foul him and he won't knock his ft's. I could play hack a rivers and my team would still win. That's sad considering he's a guard

You probably weren't even considering picking Lamb at 10. Hindsight GMs are the best.

That's my thing if he doesn't take a huge leap by year 3 as a serviceable backup I'm giving up on him.

doesn't he play a lot with the backups?
...and even if not, Lamb can take advantage of open situations, because he can shoot....Rivers cannot.
