Just got more clarity on why Gordon is out: basketball reasons.

rivers may magically turn into as good of a player as gordon, but he hasn't shown any indication he's the same level of player

The Hornets need Gordon more than Davis if they want to win games. Someone has to facilitate this offense.

yeah davis will almost assuredly be a better player, but we need both (and another "max" level player) to win it all

Agreed. Rivers may end up being really good. But, right now Gordon is Light Years ahead of him (if healthy).

For this years team to be mediocre to good, Gordon needs to play and play well.

seriously

gordon played 1 year of college ball and did this

16.1 ppg
2.6 rpg
2.8 apg
1.0 spg
45.6% FG
38.9% 3PT
85.4% FT

does anybody think rivers sniffs those stats (especially FG/FT%)?

defensive bigs are a lot more fungible than scoring wings. then you have to think about a team that has no other real backcourt option except a volatile rookie who can't shoot

How so? Have you not watched how bad the offense has been all preseason?

I kind of agree. We are total dogshit on Offense without him. At some point you have to score the damn ball.

That's kind of why I would consider a Shabazz Mohammad over a Nerlens Noel if it came to that (WAY ahead of ourselves there).

Anderson and Miller look like they'll be great if you have someone who can set them up. This team needs a creator like Gordon. Rivers may get there eventually because he can blow by guys at will, but he's not there yet.

I want you to look at that Clippers team that year (LINK Even with those stats, Gordon was the 3rd or 4th best player. Al Thornton had just as impressive of a year. That team ran. Monty's system won't deliver those type of numbers and that's just fine. I expect Rivers to be somewhere pretty close though, especially if he starts. I will admit he's raw, but I was talking from a pure talent/gifts perspective. He does not have the experience though.

Exactly. People probably don't realize how much of a game changer Gordon is because he's never on the court. He's an elite talent and is vital for the would be success of this team

I don't deny his talent, but in his 4 years in the league he hasn't been on a winning team. He hasn't been on a team that has won more than 32 games. Kind of hard to buy into your premise after seeing that..
