I'm ok with Willie working on lineups and what not, but I think by Game 5 of preseason you have to gradually have what your regular season rotations will be in place.
I don't disagree. If I'm seeing this correctly the huge scoring drought started with a linup of Sato/Hart/Murphy/Jones/Hayes. The only 2 guys who have ever played a minute together in that are Hart and Hayes, who aren't creators anyway. Then we put Kira and Temple in for Sato and Hart. No starters were in the game till 5:11 in the 2nd at which point we were already down 13. I don't think we'll see many 7 minute stretches in the regular season without at least one of BI/Zion/NAW/Graham.

16 pages for preseason game 1.
That's awesome.
That's awesome.

I need to see a NAW,BI,Trey,Placeholder(Naji?),Jonas lineup before the end of preseason.
I'd like to see it as well, even though I have a lot of skepticism that you can forgo having a point guard on the court for that many minutes a night, and to start games.
But if we are experimenting, now is the time to give stuff like that some run to see if it's viable or not.

There was a lot of general negativity in this thread and lots of people jumping all over their confirmation biases.
And I was probably one of them lol. They looked like absolute garbage last night. Not even judging because of the lineup, because they were careless with the ball and lacked effort throughout the game but I am not worrying or jumping to conclusions. To be honest, after last season I no longer have any expectations for this team. Hopefully they win and that is it.

For me it was more that guys like Graham didn't really do much to calm my concerns from his play in CHA. Also, obviously, Jaxson Hayes injury is a big concern.
And I don't know how to exactly explain it, but I just don't think our 10 man rotation is as strong in practice as I was letting myself believe on paper. Spacing for one is a concern. I really thought some one of Hart, Naji, Kira, Hayes, NAW would have improved hitting threes, but everyone, so far, looks about where they were last season and that's a bit disappointing. Really, leaving BI, Graham, Murphy as our only real threats that are going to command constant attention on the arc. Defensively there is a lot of energy, but it didn't seem to result in stops. Hayes, before going down, I was surprised how little he attempted to incorporate any pick and pop or spot up moments.
It's early, so I'm not saying that can't change. But those are the areas of concern I'm keeping an eye on for next game.

But Zion's gravity will make our opportunities from 3 more wide open. So, I won't be surprised if our 3pt % is lower in the preseason than after we get Zion back.

I feel like Trey HAS to start with Zion.
Graham
BI
Trey
Zion
Jonas
I would be worried about that lineup defensively though.

Come on guys, can we stop with all the Zion put on weight talk please.

Not good enough. We need gravity from the arc with respectable spacing. Zion may not need the spacing to score, but it'll keep teams from packing the paint and hack him all day long which he gets injured over time. Plus BI would be more effective navigating the lane as well.

If you are prioritizing spacing and offense, yeah, that lineup makes the most sense right now. Graham is better defensively than you might think given his size, but it would come down to effort on BI and Zion's part to make that unit work.
It sucks Zion isn't around to truly test these lineups, because I very much would like to see all these combos of swapping around NAW, Graham, and Murphy to see what clicks.
Because I do worry that it will be hard to really project when Naji is standing in for someone so unique like Zion.

A lot of teams will probably still choose to pack the paint even with dead eye shooters, but the thing is you also, simply, want those guys you kick out to to be able to knock down shots.

Maybe so but not to the degree of guys like Hart, Naji, and Temple. Teams won't even think twice. At least with a guy like Murphy who can hit those guys with high volume. It's much more likely teams will have him on the gameplan and stay home.
We saw examples of that yesterday. The wolves were bailing on Temple and Marshall to pack the paint and roll coverage towards Ingram. Absolutely no respect and for good reason.

Maybe, maybe not.
Zion is such a force that I can see a lot of teams, barring Duncan Robinson opposite Zion, deciding on cheating off to help pack the paint on Zion.
But thats why you want good shooters to make them pay, and also there is the BI factor. Hard to double both if your other three guys can hit threes at high volume efficiently.
I think having good spacers is as much about BI as it is Zion.
Eiter way, I think we are on the same page. We really just want to see good shooters around Zion/BI, the more dynamic they are the better.

That's the entire point. If we have to rely on Temple, Hart, and Naji to play big minutes with Zion, we're going to repeat a lot of issues we had last season. There were periods where Bledsoe was hitting him at 38 percent and Ball hitting them at 40% but they still couldn't hit shots when it counted in the last 5 minutes so teams simply didn't respect them as they knew they would come back down to earth before the game was over.
If you're getting wide open 3s from the coverages that BI and Zion receives, there's absolutely no reason why you aren't hitting those shots consistently at a high percentage with good volume.
Trey at least offers some movement in space whereas Temple, Naji, and Hart are stationary guys who aren't going to move unless they're diving towards the basket.
Graham, NAW, and Trey has the knack and feel to move in space and relocate for open looks. The minutes needs to be prioritized as the skillset is simply more complimentary for the starters.

Ok I have finally coped from losing my $400 parlay because the Pels didn't cover the +2.5 last night.
The last quarter was impressive on offense and defense and Jax not getting hurt may change the outcome. Is Gabriel out there if Jax is healthy, and the Herb Jones foul hurt with 12 seconds left.
I have a feeling Pels will be hitting a lot of overs, mainly due to our threats to score. The overreaction on spacing and our 3pt% will be alleviated with Zion, Jonas, and Jax all playing
