I don't think we fully appreciate how much Missi changes things

2 games in Missi looks like he can be the eventual starter in a center committee. Every non rookie contract center we've been looking to trade for to fill that role has been making at least $20 million meaning the center committee probably needs to be $25-$35 million.
Missi filling that spot means your center committee can get away with being $10 million or less. Saving $15-$25 million is huge because it means you can choose BI over CJ and still stay under the tax.
Dump CJ, pay BI $45 million keep everyone currently on the roster, add a draft pick or 2 to keep the talent pipeline full and you'd be under the tax next year with a pretty stacked roster if your youth keeps developing.
I know we've played 2 games against bad teams, and I really want to see this team at full strength to know who really fits and who doesn't, because there aren't enough minutes to go around. But Missi changing the team building math makes it less likely that we get more value from trading BI than keeping him if he keeps playing with more of a rim and 3 focus. I know this board had already moved on from Ingram, but if they improve from this baseline, I think the odds of him staying increase.

Completely agree. Keep molding Hawkins into replacing CJ, trade CJ (expiring next summer) for less salary, then pay BI.

Exactly this. The path looks to be re-aign BI to less than max deal (hopefully closer to 40m/yr) because he loves this squad! Salary dump CJ's salary, can start Herb or have him come off the bench, start Trey, give Missi the primary Center role 20-30 minutes.

He’s only going to get better as the season goes along

Correct. If he can be a role player-level starter by the end of the year or next year, we can afford to keep BI.
Missi
Zion
Herb
BI
Murray
Trey, Hawkins, Jose give flexibility and some depth.
If Karlo could develop into a bench-capable big that helps a great deal with Theis

Im trying to hold my enthusiasm until after the 10th game, but his bball IQ seems to be off the charts. The physical stuff can be fixed with a NBA offseason, but the IQ is what is really impressing me atm.

Really like having a potential starting lineup of players 6'4" and above.
Missi
Zion
Jones
BI
Murray
Top subs Trey and Hawkins are 6'5" and taller.
Need to trade CJ for a 6'8" three and D player who can grab rebounds as well.

You mean like Trey Murphy who you apparently forgot was on the team?

As if we didn’t need more proof you’re a lakers fan

I am a Lakers fan, but I also enjoy watching the Pelicans.
Trey is not a rebounder. He has a career average of 3.6.

I know for financials, a decision may need to be made. But I like the way healthy CJ plays with this team. I’ve been critical of him no showing in the playoffs but he’s a 3 pt shooting monster when he can be the tertiary option to Z and BI. BI shooting so many 3s is giving CJ even more spacing.

Missi looks way better than I expected. He gets lost at times but his IQ seems high and love his motor

CJs basketball IQ is alarmingly low sometimes. Hawk couldn’t miss in the second half last night. CJ didn’t even look for him in crunch time and he was open a lot. He was moving off ball extremely well. Instead we got ineffective CJ hero ball which we saw way too often last year.
I had a similar thought last night as OP. Keeping Ingram and bouncing CJ is probably the play if CJ can’t accept a lesser role.
Murray
Herb
TM3
Ingram
Zion
Should be our finishing 5 if fully healthy.
If we have to keep shoehorning lineups to fit CJs ego, it's going to hold this team back. If the Hawkins year 2 jump is real, we may have a younger, cheaper version of CJ anyways. And he needs reps.
I also hate the idea of Jose never seeing the floor as his full court defense and energy really muck up the flow for opposing teams. He needs to get those 10 minutes a night to lift our energy up and dirty the other teams. There’s a reason he wins his minutes. When his offensive game is clicking, he’s one of the best backup PGs in the NBA.

Jose is like an Australian shepherd…he needs a regular job. It shouldn’t be that hard to establish his defined role and let him do his thing every night.
willie does a poor job of setting up his role players to succeed. Injuries play a part in that but picking a lane for players like Jose shouldn’t be this haphazard
