They have a big log jam on their wings right now.
Evan Turner, Nocioni, Jodie Meeks, Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday, Kapono, Thaddeus Young.
In fact, it's one reason why Young plays PF and center at times. They have not much in the way of post presence. And I don't know if they can keep Iggy and still add someone else.

Can't deny Iggy has a great game. That being said, I've always had the impression that he's one of those guys who wants 1st tier $$$ but is gonna give you 3rd tier production. On a team where he can be that third option, you're looking at a team that's gonna compete for rings. If he's option 1 or even 2...uh-oh. IMO.

The 76ers are trying to clear cap room with a trade. They don't want Okafor and his contract.

People get all stupid with these threads. At best Free Agency gets you Dalembert for slightly less money than Okafor. It'd be one thing if you could get him for the MLE, but that just isn't going to happen.
WiseGuy has put forth his Okafor for Bogut swap, which most here would do in a second which means the Bucks never go for it. Another possibility is Biedrins. Golden State wants to dump him and a Warriors beat writer thinks they won't be able to do it but if they did they'd probably have to give up someone like Dorrell Wright in the process. Dump Okafor, add Biedrins + Wright.

It was West+Okafor for Bogut+ bad contract. Unlikely though. But please no Biedrins. He might be the worst low post defender in the NBA. He blocks shots and rebounds, but teams would literally score at will against us down low. He does have one year less than Mek on his contract so that could be enticing to Demps.

Ok with the imminent blow up of the Lakers now. I would be open minded to Odom/Bynum/Blake for Paul/Okafor. It would suck real bad to lose an elite player like Paul, but a big man rotation of West, Odom, Bynum, and Gray would be great. Also we would be more flexible because of the loss of Okafor.
The Lakers starting 5:
Paul
Kobe
Artest
Okafor
Gasol
The Hornets Depth:
Jack/Blake
W. Chandler(FA ?)/Belli
Ariza/QPon
West/Odom
Bynum/Gray

CBA aside for argument's sake.
The Hornets will be at just over $50 mil in salary next year. Thats about $8-9 mil under the cap. If West opts out thats puts you at about $43 mil, $15-16 mil under the cap.
That actually puts them in a position to make a HUGE offer to Gasol.
Then, I really think Demps has an opportunity to manipulate the cap. A Gasol deal would could potentially leave us just barely under the cap.
You cant use the MLE unless you're over the cap. However, you can go over the cap to re sign your own guys. So after a Gasol deal, I think Demps should sign someone like Belli or Smith to a deal just big enough to get them over the cap.
That opens up the MLE for Landry(something like 4-$24 mil)...and we're golden.
Fill the bench out with the Andersen/Mbenga types.
Then an Okafor for a SG deal would be AWESOME

I thought you only got the MLE if your team was over the cap at the beginning of FA.

If that is the case, then just scrap the Landry part and start Okafor and Gasol together

You can get Bynum, don't think you can get both Lamar and Bynum.

Paul is a superstar and Okafor is definitely above average. They would have to give up two of their three big men in the trade.

I don't have time to look it up on Larry Coon's Salary Cap FAQ, but I'm almost positive that once you sign someone with under the cap money you lose all your exceptions. Also, you have to have salary holds in place to use Bird Rights, so you couldn't sign Gasol to a max deal and then resign West. West's projected salary would be counting against the cap when you went after Gasol unless you were really ready to let West walk.

Unless Gasol extends before free agency, the Hornets should offer him an insane contract and worry about what to do with Okafor later.
First, Gasol is awesome. Second, if Howard does become available via trade, an extended Marc Gasol is a killer trade chip.

That $50 million includes 9.2 million in qualifying offers to Anderson, Belinelli, and Smith.

The Grizzlies will match any offer made to Marc Gasol. You can take that to the bank. Marc Gasol as a Hornet is a fantasy.

A fantasy, but I think more plausible then Nabbing Gasol away from the Grizz.
Gasol is a RFA. What motivation would the Grizzlies have not to extend him ? They just have to trade Mayo for a second round pick and their salary doesn't change at all from this years to next.

the 76ers may want to move iggy, and they have a glut at the 2/3
the grizzlies really want to keep gasol, and he's crucial for their 4/5
it's not a comparable comparison
