He had surgery in the off season and is 100% coming into this season. The only way you are correct in your statement is if we would have been better off last year without him playing. And if you think that, I don’t know what to tell you.

Broski, what point of yours did I prove?
Were you ok with BI taking as much time as he needed no questions asked even after being cleared for the toe injury last season?

See this is a tough question only because as fans we truly don’t know the overall health status of our injured players and pending re injury, set backs, etcc hindsight is a bitch.

CJ looked great last night and in preseason. You could tell he had a little more pop in his shot.

He also did not force much and was very controlled with ball handling. These are 2 things that needed to be improved greatly from last season, really the only 2 things other than getting healthy. Obviously healthy BI/ Z will play into putting him in the best role for success.

With that being said… You can’t start a thread titled “is he still the problem” and then act like there isn’t a clear improvement. If he didn’t actually have lesser play last year then there would be no reason to make a thread titled “is CJ still the problem”. So some contradictions there.

Also it is asinine to say CJ shouldn’t have played last year.

Could he have done a better job as a leader/ game manager even with being injured? Yes

Would it have been worth it or beneficial to sit him? Hell no

The people that post “gotcha’s” about CJ and refuse to acknowledge his struggles (even if the struggles are minimal) are just as bad as the people that just want to trash/ trade CJ.

I see what you are saying.

I'm going to be as honest as I can; I don't recall my stance on BI last year. I'm sure I participated in a thread or two but I don't want to look up my history.

He played great last night, but this comment is bs. There were countless times last that Jonas or Trey were cooking but CJ jacked up shot after shot without them touching the ball. He routinely took it upon himself to take over games down the stretch. It worked sometimes, but failed way more frequently.

I think the problem a lot of us had (and I certainly had) was the ridiculous l, over the top banging on CJ that happened by several on this board. Did CJ have bad games, of course; did CJ have those one or two minute periods in games where he had some inexplicable turnovers, absolutely; did he at times struggle playing what was essentially a new position, sure. But it’s comments like “he refused to even acknowledge Zion’s existence” and “wouldn’t pass him the ball” that would piss me off. Those kind of takes were asinine and ridiculous.

I’m not a CJ hater like some people on here but this is just sad

I will say I liked the lineup where it was him and a bunch of role players. Gives him more freedom to do his on ball stuff and I’m not as upset about it (yet)

I think your original premise is only correct if a dude is legit a net negative due to his injury.

We know CJ wasn't 100% nor playing as well as he could, but he was certainly not a net negative, and we would have been worse without him.

And we had playoff goals all along and at least thought Zion may come back, so it always made sense for him to play through it.

CJ is a heady vet. He’s a fantastic third option who can light it up from 3, and plays pretty solid defense. He’s also a three level scorer who can get to his spot. Zion and BI were hurt most of the year last year, and CJ gutted through two injuries that required surgery this off season. If we are going to make any noise this year CJ will be one of the reasons why.

I agree with you

If this was admitted in any those threads to find ANY middle ground then it wouldn’t have escalated…. Y’all sucked his dick even when he played bad and that made the disconnect worse.

The problem is someone says something about him and people get defensive instead of logical. Yeah he was hurt, yeah we didn’t have our star players, yeah we didn’t have other shooters. That doesn’t discount that he still played like shite at times, he made bad decisions, he still was not clutch at times when needed. It is what it is. Both sides have to be understood

Interesting how you didn’t quote the part about a poster stating “CJ wouldn’t even acknowledge Zion’s existence” and “wouldn’t pass him the ball.” Wonder why?? That’s the ridiculous comments I’m talking about.
