It's not what they intended, but I'd take the Mavs future, built around Flagg, over the Lakers. This move makes it clear that they are building around Flagg and it's his team. They still have a couple of good contracts to move and decent draft assets. It's not a
bad return, given Davis injury history.
Agree to some extent. They are not in bad shape because they have a teenage stud in Flagg to build around. But let’s not act like what they did with Davis was anything more than a salary dump (one of the 1sts they got was OKC’s which makes it a glorified 2nd round pick) and helps their tax apron situation. But it does not in anyway take away from the Doncic trade debacle.

I think it does. Mavs fans really can't bitch or complain about it too much. They have another star and are better off now, than they would have keeping Doncic. The future is not good for the Lakers. Once they give Reaves the max this summer they won't be able to add much more. Mavs could overtake them next year. How will that narrative play out after that?

Yes, but only because they got the enormous luck (unless you’re a conspiracy theorist and have another reason the Mavs lucked into Flagg) of having the shortest odds but getting the first pick and a transcendent player. That’s the ONLY thing that even remotely saves that trade.

Maybe, maybe not. Nobody is feeling sorry for them anymore, and most people have moved on. It really just doesn't matter anymore. It was a super bad deal, that has worked out for them. It all goes to show that a huge factor in building a team is just plain luck. It's not fair, but that's just kind of how it goes sometimes..

The point simply is a trade to give a superstar away for a guy who has never been able to stay healthy even when he was young was ridiculous. The fact the Mavs got extremely lucky by getting the 1st pick doesn’t make the trade any less idiotic. It’s the same with the trade with Atlanta. How good Queen may end up being doesn’t excuse giving away way more than you needed to.
