Agreed, but it's a decent improvement over his career average, and is more relevant for what to expect going forward.

it makes little sense since Jackson can't do much on offense w/o the ball in his hands. bringing back a guy who has a version of Tyreke's game for 3/$51M.

maybe he's been humbled some and would be willing to be 3rd or 4th banana on this team.

You are right he was not solo hill/asik terrible. But he averaged 9.5 , 2, and 2.
That can be replaced easy/cheap. No reason not to trade etwuan because his contract isn't as horrendous as you would expect from dell

He does something: complain

Reggie Jackson missed the first few months of last season with a knee injury. His main skill is attacking the basket. He went from a career FG% at the rim of .591 to .510. He basically went from good to bad at his primary skill. Now maybe he just needs a full year to heal up and he'll be effective, but does anyone trust this team and medical staff to make that determination?

If he's not back to his old self you just traded a good contract and a bad but small enough to dump contract for a large bad contract that will be hard to dump. Our evaluation of whether or not this is a good trade all hinges on the team's medical evaluation. Still think people are overreacting?

Look at the end of the day, we will have to take risks. I get that and I'm sure Dell is working every angle. Reggie Jackson could work well but it's a huge gamble. Check out this article written not 2 weeks ago.

LINK

quote:

Look, no one knows if Reggie can or will return to his previous form (fringe All-Star?). We only know that if he does, the cast around him is good enough to get back into the playoffs.

In spite of his ball-dominant, asthma-fatigue and poor-defense flaws, Good Reggie was capable of taking over games. There were many games in that previous season when he single-handedly kept them in or flat out won games in the fourth quarter. And guess what? When he wasn’t capable of doing that last season, they lost. And it was excruciating to watch.

quote:

I’m not optimistic about this upcoming season. My expectations are very low because I have serious doubts about Reggie’s ability to return to his previous form.

But yes, there’s a chance he gets healthy and the Pistons surprise people once again.

quote:

With Bad Reggie, this team goes nowhere and possibly gets dismantled. With Good Reggie, it’s a solid playoff team with a bright future.

I think I'm in if Asik is traded in this deal. But Moore + Ajinca? I'm out

I just don't see the upside. If Detroit thinks Reggie will return to form, why would they trade him? Even if we got a pick with this, trading for Bad Reggie seems like a terrible move. The only way I consider it is if it's somehow part of a 3 way for say Bledsoe. You get enough picks to trade Asik for Bledsoe and use Reggie as a 6th man. And he'd be an expensive 6th man, so I'm not sure I even buy that angle.

I think thats overreacting a bit to one bad season and he'll be around 3 All star caliber players

There's going to be risk with any deal we do(Like Lin or Bledsoe) and Jackson has by far the lowest risk due to the likely assets given up.

Look I don't absolutely love his contract either but completely dismissing it is a bit foolish at this juncture.

I'm not really sure if this makes the team better, depends on how they use him. However, I will say if the pelicans include a first round pick in this trade, I might lose it.

One bad season caused by an injury. That's the red flag here, this team and injury evaluation/recovery have a pretty bad history.

I prefer this over giving up a first for Lin. Still have an asset if additional moves must be made. It'd be great if Asik were a part of this but looks like the only way we're dumping that worthless bastard is if it's off a bridge

I'm not a big Reggie fan, but this trade improves the team. Hopefully we get a pick in return also. Not bad (considering what we're paying). I like Moore's game, but we have Crawford and Jackson as backup SG's.

I was one of his bigger proponents but he's not irreplaceable either

Of course not, but should he be replaced by a player who is a little bit better but takes up a lot more cap space?

You get a little bit better skill-wise and a little bit worse cap-wise... Not sure it's an overall improvement.

In what world is Moore/Ajinca worth a player and pick?

Are you referring to his contract? If so, it's pretty bad.

Maybe make it a three teamer?

Pels get Bledsoe
Suns get Jackson, NOP 1st, and Detroit 1st
Pistons get Moore and Ajinca

How is Jackson just a little bit better than Etwaun?

Yeah this does nothing for me. I'm not sure how much better RJ is than Moore at this point and he makes like 18 million.

You bring up a great point. Lin, Bledsoe, Smart, etc all have risks associated with them and Reggie is no different. On one hand we cover these risks with Jackson by not giving Detroit picks. On the other hand, we increase the risk because Reggie has a 3 years and $17 mil on his deal as opposed to the rest (Lin, Bledsoe, Smart) with less years and less money.

So is it worth the risk?

Moore had significantly better and more efficient shooting stats than RJ last year. And gets paid WAY less.

Jackson 16-17 (52 GP; 50 starts): 27.4 MPG, 14.5 PPG, 41.9 FG, 35.9 3PT, 5.2 AST

Moore 16-17 (73 GP; 22 starts): 24.9 MPG, 9.6 PPG, 45.7 FG, 37 3PT, 2.2 AST

Couple those stats with contracts and yeah, I'd say "a little better" is perfectly fair.
