WWL reported he was offered. His price was 3-4 million per year
Assuming this is true, I assume we offered less than that?

Read some Steelers blogger a few days ago that said Butler was looking for ~$5-6m a year. If he's asking for $3-4m/yr I don't think that there's any way that we would have not satisfied that.
And going to the Browns could very well cost him money in the long run, even if they offer more than us. Kruger and Sheard are clear cut starters. He'd be going right back to playing behind a really good OLB pair. I can't imagine the Browns, even if they have a ton of cap space, paying their 3rd OLB ~$5m/yr. He'd start at LOLB for us and, with our offense, have a lot of opportunities to rack up sacks. A 3 year deal would have him hitting the market at 28, so he'd still be in line for another good contract.

The new CBA requires teams to spend an average of 88.8% of the CAP or $110+ million per year over a four year period.
They almost need to spend the money.

We're entering the phase of free agency where teams aren't throwing out offers players can't refuse. The big names have leverage in the first phase. Now you'll see someone like Butler make the rounds and have to figure out what is the best deal for him. After this phase is established it will escalate quickly to players signing for whatever they can get before the offering money runs out.
He visits Cleveland Monday. Haven't read of any other visits for him after that. He would prolly make his decision before the end of next week if that's the case.

Most probably right. Looks like Butler is price shopping. If that's right, Browns have the money to put on the table (Saints and Steelers don't).

If this includes the Insectarium I don't see how he left that offer on the table.

The insectarium was a letdown imo

Very much so.
Unfortunately most of our posters are poster boys for the microwave generation.

What did Joe Horn do in KC?

You didn't really compare a 26 yr old pro bowl qb coming in to the prime of his career to a 32 yr old cb coming off his two worst seasons did you?

@JazzyJeff #Cowboys - As suspected, Payton's meeting with Butler was to establish contacts with Dallas players so he is familiar with his players when he takes over as Cowboys coach next year.

Sure they can; just means someone (or more) will go. I don't see us really paying Ivory $2 Mill...just for starters.

Why yes. Yes he did.

Yes I did and you obviously missed the whole point that they are both risky acquisitions.
Brees was coming off a huge arm surgery. The Chargers were convinced enough he was not the answer and decided to let him go for Phillip fricking Rivers.
Many teams probably saw Brees as damaged goods and weren't willing to take a risk in hopes he would return to pro bowl form.
Nnamdi's situation is similar in that aspect.
