If we sign Grubbs

I just dont see it happening. He's going to want too much money. How can the Saints afford to pay Grubbs? Even if the Saints could have come close to the Bucs offer report was that Nicks would stay....apparently they didnt even come close.

Grubbs is going to want close to what the Bucs is giving Nicks.

I know this league is buisness and its about money but why in the hell what you trade in Bress for Freeman...maybe a rookie would make that mistake looking to get a big payday but not for someone who has made money and could have made more money in New Orleans than he has. Good Luck buddy.

First off hes not a reciever so his success as a player is not as effected by a QB like a reciever would and second hes had the winning and success but it was on a cheap contract. He wanted to get paid which is smart since a players second contract is usually the biggest he will ever get.

Plus all that guarenteed money goes a long way. Winning is great but it wont help you out if you blow your knee out in week 1

He's not a pass catcher, why should his qb matter?

Guy has been on a 5th round pick contract for years now. While that is still a lot of money to the average person it's peanuts in the NFL and certainly not the amount that sets you up for the rest of your life like $31 million guaranteed does.

Explain, how he could have made more money in NO?

He's not going to find anyone willing to throw 30+ guaranteed at a G so he'll be disappointed.

I think there's also a little credence to the story that our front office was a little nervous about giving Nicks big money and may be a little more comfortable with a guy like Grubbs

Congrats to him, im happy for him and happy he got the money he deserved. Now we need to sign or draft a monster DT so he can kick the frick out of him twice a year.

Think Nicks will be able to help the Bucs D stop the Saints with inside info ?
Not really necessary to have inside info to stop the Saints' D.

he said himself that if the Saints were close to any offer he got on the open market then he would consider staying put.

They apparently werent close enough.

I think we made a respectable offer and then the bucs blew everyone out of the water with a crazy stupid offer. We weren't coming close to that, and I don't think I would have wanted to even be within 2 or 3mil of that offer

I said a while ago that the bidding for evans will start at 9 mill a year and about 30 guaranteed. It wasn't difficult when you looked up the mankins deal and the evans deal.

Grubbs is expected to surpass the five-year, $32 million contract given last year to Ravens guard Marshal Yanda. LINK

although I'm not sure how much of that was guaranteed

yeah never mind..I found it.

quote:

According to Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times, Grubbs is expected to command more than fellow Ravens guard Marshal Yanda, a Pro Bowler, who signed a five-year deal worth $32 million with $10 million guaranteed last year. Wilson writes that the Ravens "are unlikely to lock up Grubbs at this stage where he's hours away from a potential contract in the $40 million range."

For a good guard this isn't bad, especially only $10 mil guaranteed.

Certainly not going to be that cheap now that the Nicks deal has upped the playing field
