I think I'd rather them draft William Moore
i agree with that but his stock is rising fast.. and we are about to make a playoff run..
if you look around the league there is only a handful of standout FS..

Dawan Landry
i wouldn't mind him...i'm pretty sure he picked off drew brees last year, if i'm not mistaken
That was in 2006 when they last played Baltimore, but whose counting?
@ the time I didn't even realize he was LaRon's brother.

id rather have Landry than Moore id take a proven NFL player easily

I've seen Landry listed as RFA not UFA
other DBs...
Nnamdi Asomugha, UFA, Oakland Raiders
Asomugha’s numbers don’t overwhelm other than his eight interceptions in ’06, but the big reason that he has only 241 career tackles and 10 interceptions is because opponents attack the side of the field that Asomugha isn’t on. He has 40 passes defensed over the past three seasons prior to ‘08 and he’s one of the NFL’s best in coverage. He’s held some of the game’s best receivers in check in single coverage and when he becomes a free agent, he may command the most attention of the lot. With the release of DeAngelo Hall, the Oakland may look to pay Asomugha, considering how talented he is.
Mike Brown, UFA, Chicago Bears
Brown had played in just 21 games over the past four seasons and the Bears missed his presence when he wasn’t on the field. In the ’05 season, when he last played in a majority of the Bears’ games, he had 72 tackles and three interceptions and had a solid season. He has played in all ten games this season and has 51 tackles along with a sack and interception. He won’t be a highly coveted free agent because of the injury concerns that surround him, but someone will take a chance on him.
Brian Dawkins, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Dawkins has been one of the better safeties in the league for some time now. He’s in his mid-thirties, but he will still be of interest to several teams because of his track record. He has had at least one interception in each year of his 13-year career, and he’s had only one during the two seasons he missed considerable time. As recently as two seasons ago, he had five forced fumbles, four picks, and 98 tackles. While he may not be quite the same player he once was when he becomes a free agent, he’s having a decent season and will probably still be a better option than many other safeties in the league. He’s played in Philadelphia his entire career and chances are it’ll stay that way.
Chris Gamble, UFA, Carolina Panthers
Gamble may not be the first player to come to mind when discussing top cornerbacks, but he has certainly strung together some really good seasons of play for the Panthers. He had six picks in his rookie season and followed it up with seven in ’05. He’s young, athletic, and has shown quality instincts for much of his early career. He is only 25, which will give teams an incentive to offer a long-term deal. He has made 63 tackles and two picks for the Panthers in ’08. It may be hard for Carolina to keep Gamble around if isn’t signed to an extension before free agency.
Dawan Landry, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
It is difficult to imagine that the Ravens would let Landry get away considering he is young and showed major potential during his first two seasons in the NFL. Landry, a safety, made a significant impact in his first year when he made 69 tackles and had five interceptions as well as three sacks. While his sacks and interceptions dropped in year two, he tallied 83 tackles, still making plays on the ball but just not coming up with turnovers. He was placed on injured reserve for this season after playing in just two games this year. Landry is athletic and finds the ball well. It’s a safe bet that Baltimore wants to keep him around through his prime.
Dunta Robinson, UFA, Houston Texans
Robinson missed nearly half the season last year, but before he was injured he was being mentioned alongside the top corners in the league, even though he played for a struggling Texans team. He also missed the first five games of this season, but has 18 tackles and a pick in the five games he has played in since. He made a name for himself in his rookie season when he made six interceptions, three sacks, and 88 tackles. Any team would like to have his services in their defensive backfield if he can stay healthy, and if Houston doesn’t start winning, Robinson could look for a change of scenery with a more successful franchise.
Other Defensive Backs
Tyron Brackenridge, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Mike Brown, UFA, Chicago Bears
Phillip Buchanon, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jabari Greer, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Rodney Harrison, UFA, New England Patriots
Kelvin Hayden, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Renaldo Hill, UFA, Miami Dolphins
Daven Holly, UFA, Cleveland Browns
John Lynch, UFA, Denver Broncos
Bryant McFadden, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
R.W. McQuarters, UFA, New York Giants
Justin Miller, UFA, New York Jets
Lawyer Milloy, UFA, Atlanta Falcons
Deltha O'Neal, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Jarrad Page, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Allen Rossum, UFA, San Francisco 49ers
Darren Sharper, UFA, Darren Sharper

damn, both the Landry boys are top flight NFL safeties, family must be proud, and Ed Reed is probably hall of fame in future.
here is my ? how did LSU let those two get away, at least they got one.

Since Payton got here he has been trying to upgrade the safeties and I think our guys are serviceable. We have however needed freaking cornerbacks going all the way back to the Ditka years and most years mock drafts say we are going corner only for us to draft at a position that is considered a strength on the team at the time. We need to get some goddamn cornerbacks and I don't care what happened last week. Stop trying to find a jewel in the rough like Usama Young and draft a well known player from the SEC who goes against NFL type receivers week in and week out.

Yes, he is but I figured we could move Roman over to get the best players on the field.

that safety from missouri looks like a prospect
Posted on 11/27/08 at 10:55 am to S
what's his name S? and for the rest out there, we will be fine at corner, Porter once he gets back will be a fine young corner, and Gay and Usama can take turns holding down the other, Mckenzie, though played brillinatly as of late, may be thru.

Well the reason I brought up FA is because we dont have a full allotment of picks and might lose our 1st round to go along with our 2nd and 3rds.
If Im not mistaken.

lol, here's hoping.
I think Taylor Mays could be around later in the 1st round so we could go that direction too.
Or we could go with another linebacker in the 1st (Aaron Curry, maybe? He's awesome)

Lets sign every former LA player that is a free agent. Yeah, great idea.
Posted on 11/27/08 at 4:39 pm to Landon Donovan
we need to get somebody at FS, don't care who.
Posted on 11/27/08 at 5:48 pm to lsusportsman2
i dont think there are any LA guys available that play FS

Also, same with Brandon Jacobs?
Good God no. Too much necessary cap space wasted. We need a bruiser, but you can find RBs in the third round. i.e. Forte, Kevin Smith who are both carrying the load form their team and were picked in the third last year.
Also Slaton, and Charles both of whom have contributed were drafted in the third last year.
quote:
Two LA native could possibly fill positions of need.
LA native thing should be irrelevant. Field the best 11 guys.
If we can get our hands on a decent FS in FA this year then that is the move. Pick him up, draft a LT first round move Brown to RT, then a RB in the third.
Start Dunbar at WLB. Also pick up depth at CB is possible.

I like Dawan. and he would be a definite improvement, but if I am not mistaken he is on IR right now. Hope he recovers fully.

X off Gamble...
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Panthers have signed cornerback Chris Gamble to a six-year, $53 million contract that includes $23 million worth of guaranteed bonuses. The deal makes Gamble one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in NFL history.
