I agree...I wouldn't be surprised if he played til he was 34 or 35...he's a smart, tough player who will stay effective when older, imo.
and ya, I don't see this decline that everyone keeps talking about...he was 60 yards away from his seventh season of at least 70 receptions and 1,000 yards...and he missed a game.
It wasn't a matter of Colston declining, it was about him getting healthy...he finished the season much better than he started it...doesn't exactly say "decline".
Last 6 games (including playoffs): 41 receptions, 507 yards

I could see another 2-3 800+ yard seasons out of him, with maybe one of those being a 1000 yard season.

Anyone claiming he was done didn't pay attention.

We're not cutting Colston. Loomis will do his stuff and get him to come down on the price. He knows his production is elevated by having Brees trust/toss him the ball.
All speculation but it's how I feel.

I was including playoffs, but the point remains.
...Colston had abnormally poor games in weeks 5,6, and 8...with week 7 being the bye and week 9 being the game he missed...outside of that stretch, it was business as usual for him.

Gotcha. In that case that includes his monster game against Seattle to end the year. Not bad against the "best secondary" in the league.
It still also includes Carolina twice, St. Louis, and TB.
He did some work. Eagles was actually his worst game over that stretch, but I think it had more to do with our run focus than him not playing well.

And we couldn't really throw in the second half of that game.

...agreed.
Also, PFF rated him the #13 WR and #4 in drop rate.
That along with his production and his monster finish against that D, and I don't get how many think he's declining rapidly or done.

If you sort just by the passing game he actually ranks 10th. Dude is still very productive.
Side note, I have no idea how Stills rated out -5.5 in the passing game when he had a 70% catch rate(same as Colston's) only 1 drop, better YAC, and better YPC.
I get that it's more than numbers, but to be -5.5(which is pretty bad) with those numbers is crazy. At the least he should be closer to 0.

Because he's not putting up 1k yards.
People love to stat-sheet arguments instead of watching games.

Stats are great when used properly.
I use them properly; some others don't.

You know what I meant damnit.
Or they're very selective with their stats

ya, it definitely seems like overall he was better than -5.5...i expect it go up a lot this season like it does for many sophomores.
...he graded pretty red for the pass against @TB, ARZ, @CHI, and @SEA which weighted down his score....2 receptions, 13 yards in 181 snaps in those 4 games

Oh, I knew what you meant.
But sweeping generalizations make Jesus cry.

That rating is horseshite.

i kind of think once the younger guys start to get more attention from teams (Stills, Cooks) that Colston will reap some of the rewards.
he's still a mismatch most of the time playing in the slot. I don't know how much he lines up there but it seems like he does often.
I have no clue on how many more years he has left OP.
a lot of people seem to think he doesn't have much left.
I hope he proves them wrong.
he's always been underappreciated.

Do y'all think Colston is NFL Hall of Fame worthy? He's having an unbelievable and amazing career for a 7th round pick.

it is incredibly hard for a WR to get into the Hall of Fame first of all.
I mean Cris Carter had to wait forever himself.
I don't think so though, to answer your question.
the hall of fame voters like to fap to pro bowl selections and all-pro selections which Colston has never received.
personally, I think he got screwed some by not winning ROTY in 2006. They gave to Vince Young who quarterbacked a mediocre Titans squad that year.
I think if Colston had not gotten hurt against the Bengals that year, he would have had a real shot to win it. He ended up missing 2 games that year because of it. His leg got rolled up on when he was trying to block for Deuce I think.
