re: How much do the Saints cost the State of Louisiana

Also professional players pay state income tax on what they make here . The salaries are based on per game , because of the different locations and tax structures .Saints players pay base salary plus bonus , visiting players pay just on base , and it would be 1/16 of the base . I think coaches and staff are on salary and are not paid per game . So if a big name player like OBJ were to play in the dome , he would pay Louisiana state income tax on a portion of his base , which is much lower than his accumulated . Playoff and superbowl pay is different than base . This amount over the season would also offset what the state ransom is , but it is directly paid into the state treasurer . Basketball , baseball and all professional sports should be the same .

but also, the Saints play in a publicly financed stadium, the owner was given the skyscraper and shopping complex next door styled as a subsidy. Guess the primary tenant (2/3 of the building) in the building paying above market rent for a FIFTEEN YEAR LEASE? The state of Louisiana.
Before the current contract in 09, the saints kept ALL revenue generated by the team. All the taxes from the concessions, income taxes on employees (and players), parking lots.. it all went back to benson, plus some lagniappe

This , plus all that revenue from the SB and all star game are not true numbers. What does the city generate in a normal weekend ? I get people love the saints but the state shouldn't be paying a dime for any professional franchise. I say this for every franchise and city/state. Louisiana especially considering the states budget crisis. NFL owners haven't become mega rich off taxpayers

, but the Super Bowl made more people money than it made lose money I'd guarentee.

Nothing benefits everybody, but that is a far cry from this:

The super bowl is an economic boom for New Orleans

If you read the thread and the article and numbers linked, it adjusts for that

The net economic impact for Super Bowl takes into account the displaced economic benefits of potential convention and visitor spending that occur in the absence of a Super Bowl.

Agreed, but that isn't the world we live in, nor is it the question asked in this thread. We also see it across tons of other industries.
The owners use their leverage to hold cities hostage, but luckily our stadium was built to last.

Actually, if you take away lsu football I'm not sure if Baton Rouge functions. Soooooo much tax revenue is brought in because of the football team

And possibly maybe a dollar or two because LSU is located there?
The presence of the University in BR is a huge economic contribution to the Metro BR.

I understand that everyone might not benefit. I'm sure Bessie Mae's Corner store in the night ward doesn't see an uptick in business.
But I will tell you that every home game. there is a tax on the tickets. Visiting Fans love New Orleans and thus it is a huge travel destination. So you can probably say 8K visiting fans flying into MSY. Those 8K people and several out of town fans book up hotel rooms.
Numerous fans pour into the city and they use parking lots, cabs, restaurants, bars and shopping. I guarantee that cabbie, waitress and bartender enjoy the traffic, because theu enjoy a bigger paycheck and in turn maybe the waitress goes back home to Meterie and shops in her Walmart and lets her daughter take dance lessens.
Maybe my experience is limited, but I delivered pizzas in a college town. I know I enjoyed the money in my pocket a lot more after a home game. Not so much on a Tuesday in July.

I guarantee whatever the state puts into the Saints by way of discounts and tax incentives are received back several times over from all the hotel tax, restaurant taxes, bars and shops that operate each weekend during a home game.
Got anything to prove that or are you one of those Aints fans who is blind to reality....seriously, post a link to an article, interview, etc.
You're the one who guaranteed it, so put up or shut up.

The Aints are leeches off the state.

I am always skeptical of these types of economic analyses. I do think football nets the state a profit by virtue of taxes and increased spending from the outside, but I think these figures are blown out of proportion a bit.

Plenty of people in Nola love to cheer for Bama just to spite LSU and BR
