They also said that about Kelvin Benjamin

Benjamin is a 6'5 receiver with almost a 35" arm length. He also was faster than Treadwell at his height and carrying 20 extra pounds.

Jarvis Landry makes his living near the LoS. He's an amazing possession receiver, but you should be shooting for the elite at #12. Jarvis's route tree is absolutely limited by his speed, but his route running is as good as it gets. Even so, his average is still around 10 ypc.

Jarvis is a precise route runner, and has amazing hands. Treadwell's route running is a weakness at this point. He's even admitted it.

I think Treadwell will be a very good NFL receiver, but there is a risk. His catches will likely be contested.

The addition of Treadwell means that we'll only have Cooks as a burner. Coleman, Snead, Hill, and Fleener are all 4.5+ guys (most are over 4.6). I just think that Hill and Fleener can cover that role.

it's my belief that this is a cycle that is repeated every year

teams, fans, scouts, GMs, etc fall in love with players at the start of the draft period.. then the players get talked about so much that they get put on the back burner as we run out of things to discuss and new, unheard of (or just less talked about) prospects emerge and the original targets are forgetten only to be selected in the slots they were initially slotted to be drafted in..

I would not be shocked at all if Treadwell goes in the top 15... I also would not bitch and moan if the saints picked him at 12...

ETA: just look at this thread and the things being discussed in it... it's almost ridiculous.. people get caught up in too many measureables and forget about one thing: can the guy play football at a HIGH level??? that's all that matters

I say yes

If his speed is such a weakness then why is he the dolphins punt returner? and a very good one at that (8th ranked ypr and 4th in yardage)

Punt returning is all about vision, quickness, and 1 step cuts.

If his speed isn't a weakness at WR, why isn't he used on deeper routes? The reasons he's a great PR are the same reasons he runs routes at an elite level and can be used near the LoS successfully.

And this isn't me knocking Jarvis. He's a very good WR that is elite at what he's good at. He'll always be a high volume guy, but I doubt he'll ever break 13 ypc in a season, despite being pretty good with the ball in his hands. It's just not in his game.

We won't be using a guy like Treadwell the same way the dolphins do. He'd make his living in the slot for us on seam routes. They aren't similar players except that they both attack the ball.

Do you think Treadwell is near the route runner that Landry was coming out of college?

No need for the respect, it's a fun discussion. Also, I don't think it is a part of contention at all.

Landry was almost universally considered to be an elite route runner in college and his rookie season. Treadwell has publicly admitted it is a weakness in his game, and that he didn't get much coaching in college on it.

Let me say this: I really do like Treadwell. If it wasn't for us acquiring Fleener and resigning Hill, along with Coleman as our #4 receiver, I'd be much more open to the idea. His blocking skills as a WR are absolutely awesome, and as much as I hate OM, I loved watching him play. He's a baller.

I think he's going to be a good NFL receiver. I just think we have WAAY bigger needs, even on the offensive side of the ball. Treadwell is a fluid, but we need a burner to match with Cooks, Fleener, Hill, Snead, and Coleman. We need a Devery-Meachem deep threat duo to take pull the safeties down field.

That would improve our deep game, intermediate game, and greatly improve our screen game (along with a G)

It really can't. There is a huge learning curve there, and some players never seem to get it. For a #12 pick with his skillset, I'd want that to already be developed. It will be a necessity for him. He also played outside almost exclusively at OM. We like our big guys in the middle, and he's admitted to not even knowing the full route tree (much less perfecting it).

I love his physicality. If we trade down, I can see it. There's likely just too much value at 12 for glaring needs on our team: Guard, DT, DE. Filling those positions makes us instantly better in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

And he has nice sized hands. Think they are somewhere in the mid 9 range. That's great and all, but it isn't some jaw dropping number.

Solid reply

I'm just tired of us passing on first round caliber guys like Odell, Watkins, etc and counting on unknowns

None of those guys were available to us. By all accounts, we loved ODB before the draft.

And I'd be all for taking any of those guys. They had the film to go along with elite measurables.
