I think we're obviously fine without him.
But we essentially traded him away to move up 2 rounds in the draft. Not good.

Regardless of the injuries piling up, this is a two-time pro bowler. To only get a third or fourth round pick for him is a give away
When I first heard of the trade, I though sure it was straight up Brown for Haynesworth. A conditional draft pick is a joke...what the hell are the Saints thinking?? A draft pick that may not even make the team for a 2 time Pro-Bowler???!! This sucks...

Thats the craziest fricking terms of a trade I have ever heard of.

You realize how much we would have had to pay haynesworth? His contract is huge.I would love to have him but loomis has something up his sleeve, he knows what he is doing.

Haynesworth has already been paid 21 million of the guaranteed 32 million he was set to make in his contract

Smart trade...you know how many 3rd or 4th rounders have made quality starters? A shite load. Even if we only get a backup its better then what we had on the field for 75% of last season. I don't believe you're trading away the same player you had in 2008. The man is 29 with two bad knees. The way draft picks have been valued the past two years, this is the best value you can expect. Brandon Marshall, on the right side of 25, only got a 2nd round pick. What do you'd expect from someone coming back from injury.
I'd bet two suite tickets to any game that Brown doesn't become a Pro Bowler in that zone blocking scheme Shannhan uses. Name me a LT that's every made the probowl using his scheme. The only Offensive lineman I know of are guards that pull and a center.

Good God you're a fricking idiot.
You do realize how bad this looks, right? It's obvious Brown was getting traded, the good folks on here knew this well in advance.
Frankly, I'd like to get something straight. You ready for this?
We took a guy named Bushrod, stuck him at left tackle, and holy fricking crazy shite toads batman, we won a fricking super bowl. A fricking super bowl. WITHOUT BROWN. What did Brown do for us? Sit out, hoping to get a deal done, when in reality, we just won a super bowl without him in the lineup. I'd say that makes him expendable.
What's worse is apparently, as is the case when you're a fan of your team, you tend to throw value on a player that doesn't have a lot of value. I thought Brown was worth more as well, but I got a big dose of reality with this. Saints were desperate to get rid of him, and all they could get was conditional draft picks? Yikes.
He wasn't worth what we thought he was worth. Period. End of story.
And his potential production means nothing to me. frick off.

It's going to be interesting if Washington gets to recoup some of that money. Has that ever been done in the NFL?

I really thought the Saints was gonna do a package deal and send Brown with draft picks or another player and get Haynesworth. I'm just disappointed in that deal.

It depends on how the deal is structured and what the terms of his signing bonus are.
I think some guys have had to pay back a prorated portion of their signing bonus for holding out of camp or, in the case of Jake Plummer, retiring rather than play for the Bucs.
The huge chunk of change he got paid earlier this year, though, was a roster bonus and not a signing bonus. That can't be recouped.

I really feel we should have done better. I just don't get it.

people on here, for some reason, think the saints were thrown dozens of offers for high picks and we turned them down and went with the redskins just because.

Jammaal Brown and a second rounder for Haynesworth, both teams are having trouble or were having trouble with either one. I think they coulda sold Wash on that instead of what they just did.

Payton and Loomis both said numerous times that they had no interest in Haynesworth. it was us as fans, and yes i am guilty of this as well, that chose to never believe this.
this trade with washington puts any interest in haynesworth rumors to bed for sure

well, if that's the case they will continue to have terrible run defense, you can count on it.

He has been injured, but if he is really healthy he is worth more than a 4th rounder. I just can't believe more people wouldn't be interested in a solid starting tackle.

let's see what happens after a few games, shall we? I'd hate to throw the defense under the bus before a snap is played.
