This is actually a value signing for a vet that played through injury last year. If playing healthy last year he probably gets double this contract. Gives the team even more flexibility heading into free agency and the draft as well.

All I said was he got burnt alot last year.
18.5 is too high for my liking.
You already have a free safety in our future pro bowler Marcus Williams.
So he's gunna play strong side.
Just feel like it was a bit too much and he played like garbage last yr
Anyone know what his cap hit with Carolina was before they cut him

From what I gathered he was on the books for $5.25 mil and they saved $2.75 mil cutting him ($2.5 mil dead money).
After a down year and being cut, that only reinforces my belief he does NOT have a $6.5 mil year one hit, but instead that's his year one base plus his full signing bonus (cash he is paid this year, but not cap hit as the signing bonus is spread).
And I imagine to get that full $18 mil he is going to have to play lights out. My guess is minus incentives he's only making about $3-4 mil per with another $2-3 mil per in incentives.

This guy is going to play SS. Didn’t he play free last year ? I get the $$’s seem like a bit much for someone who graded out low, but he’s got vet leadership, will play a different position compared to his down year of 2017, and most importantly, the deal says “up to 18 mill”.....
AP’s deal was “up to” 9 mill if memory serves. We ended up paying him around 3 and got a draft pick.
The sky isn’t falling.

Bonethug nice work per usual actually giving a little rationale perspective on the numbers.

So the same folks talking about signing a cheaper WR than Jarvis now mad as hell we signed a safety for half the going rate.

So they cut him only to save 2.5 mil or so.
Seems weird doesn't it .
And yeah I was shocked by the 6m5 year one hit.

Seems like a waste of 16 million.

I would imagine if he see's all 16 mil we done real good on this one!
Posted on 3/3/18 at 9:33 pm to goatmilker
I mean he isn't the worst safety but just feel like that is high for a 30 yr old safety coming off a down year.
Really hope I'm wrong.
