re: Marcus Davenport, a bust illustrated in one graphic

iirc he's also bad vs the run and his hit/pressures are low.
I don't have the pressure numbers, but this puts it a bit in context.
Davenport played slightly less than half the snaps Chubb did.
Davenport had 4.5 sacks and 12 QB hits. If you project out and double it (again just for perspective; there's no way to know if he would have had more or less sacks/QB hits) that's 9 sacks and 24 QB hits (33 total). He also would project to 4 batted passes, 2 forced fumbles, and 42 combine tackles (12 for a loss).
Chubb had 12 sacks and 21 QB hits (33 total). He also had 1 batted pass, 2 forces fumbles, and 60 tackles (14 for a loss).
The numbers are fairly similar minus Davenport having (a projected) 18 less tackles (but we all know after Lofton not all tackles are created equal, which is why depth of tackle and stops are critically important in the equation).
Not to mention about half of Davenport's playing time came after his toe injury and trying to play through it.
So, imo, he projects very well against the consensus best pass rusher from the draft, even though his forte was run stuffing and was said to be a project in the pass rushing department.
So if he did that well in his first year as a project, I can't wait to see this guy reach his potential.
Edit:
Also remember this isn't old pff where the grades where cumulative (meaning players that played less tended to have lower grades).
They are graded on a per snap basis and all the snaps (of each type) are added together and divided by total snaps (of ssid type) to find the overall grades.

You’d have to comb the game score log considering they’re grading each snap. It’s obviously not a cumulative grade considering Chubb played double the snaps and has better counting stats. The graphic states one must play 380 snaps to qualify
I like Chubb so I’m not hating, he’s been a beast. PFF guy Steve palazzo has been pretty critical of him all year though on everything but his pass rush

yeah i specifically asked for the stats. i know what they use but i'm curious what the gaps are
quote:
2018 SEASON GRADE: 68.9 From a box score standpoint, Bradley Chubb couldn’t have done much more for the Broncos in his first year in the league. The first year edge rusher racked up 13 sacks, eight hits and 37 quarterback hurries across his 456 pass-rushing snaps, and his 58 total pressures not only rank first among rookie edge defenders this year, but they’re the 19th-most among all players at the position. If Chubb is to take it to the next level in 2019, he’ll need to return to his college form when it comes to run defense and tackling, as his 2018 run-defense grade of 69.6 ranks 49th among all players at the position this year while his tackling grade (he missed 11 tackles on 47 attempts) of 40.2 ranks 92nd.
From PFF's rookie ratings:

(top 5 were free, I don't have a subscription so I can't give any better info, but the missed tackles obviously hurt Chubb significantly)
Anyone have video of Davenport's sack from last game? I haven't seen it yet, only heard that murdered the guy.

He destroyed that QB Allen from Carolina and drove his right shoulder into the turf. Showed Allen later trying to just throw like pitch and catch but couldn't do it as in a lot of pain.

2018 SEASON GRADE: 71.8
Davenport was brought along sparingly in his rookie year, and only saw 47.5% of his team’s defensive snaps, but he still impressed in certain spots. While he managed to compile 27 total quarterback pressures on the year, his best work came against the run, where his run stop percentage of 7.5% ranks third among first-year edge defenders

The most glaring and important stat when comparing Davenport and Chubb is Davenport has 3 games left and Chubb is into his first week of off season.

That's great but I wouldn't have given up a 1st to get him. That was just fuking retarded

Pretty sure Fox and the rest of this board was making fun of PFF because they had the Saints OL lower than Tennessee’s around late mid season. Then your OL got abused in multiple games (Armstead was hurt to your credit).
Funny how up and down some of you guys are with PFF.

Can we get our firstborn back we gave up for this guy?

Subtle melt
Is it bc Davenport is graded higher than Chubb or bc you made a post here earlier in the year mocking the pick?

He's leaps and bounds ahead of Cam Jordan at this stage in their respective Rookie year. Jordan had a measly 1 Sack his first full season.

Did cam have cam Jordan opposite him his rookie year? It makes a difference... made a difference for Chubb this year too

Half of the posters didn't like the Jordan pick on draft day and it took a couple of years for the "not worth the 1st round pic" threads to finally go away.

This board thinks they're draft experts so when we draft someone from UTSA who they haven't heard of, they have to bash the pick to make themselves sound smart.

That's insane. Jordan was gifted to us that year. We were extremely fortunate to get him that late.
I was actually surprised when we picked him over Ingram because I knew that was the pick (and then we got him too), but the value of Jordan at that spot was too insane to pass up.

Well...draft day post are like game days. A bit off the chart
He was seen as NFL ready and a all around safe pic but almost nothing about being a great pass rusher which is what we were looking for thus the freak out.
