im really confused on all the butthurt. we knew for about 2 weeks Sproles was gone. is this just now hitting you? for those two weeks everyone understood and was okay with it. now it happens and all hell breaks loose? cmon this aint falcons life.
we got a 5th for a guy we were about to get NOTHING for. how is that not a win? essentially we traded sproles for byrd and a 5th since his cap room covers byrds year 1 hit. how is this not good?

he wasnt great last year. you say his production would just return. so youd rather us be in cap trouble rather than make a necessary cut? i believe ingram, thomas, and robinson are more than what we need at the moment. im sure you hated the reggie bush trade. then we got sproles. whos to say we wont make adjustments again?

What you missed is me saying that I agree with the move, but I didn't agree with the sentiment that he was a wash now and good riddance. If we would have kept him, we wouldn't have a repeat of last year.
His main asset is not really in the running game. He hasn't averaged less than 4 yards a carry (yes, the average has dropped), but his pass catching out of the backfield is what can hurt a team. That's what you need to replace.

Pierre Thomas is the #1 screen back or arguably so. Yet we will have a backfield catching problem? C'mon, you know sproles was a luxury, not a need. Our offense will still be one of the top in the league.

Outside of the Miami and Dallas game, Sproles wasn't a factor in the offense. And that's not counting his ineffectiveness on returns which was a huge part of his appeal. He has started to lose his explosiveness which is what makes him so dangerous. He still can be productive but at 30 years old I don't see it getting any better. He no longer warranted his salary and I'd rather see the saints get rid of him a year too early rather than a year too late.
