If they re-sign Taylor, corner is not really a need. And Downs is good, but safety is also not a need. So u want to trade the house for two positions that are really not needed?
Taylor is best as a CB2 or hybrid. You don't want him forced to be our #1 when he can be used all over the field. Getting Delane as a CB1 for cheap makes the move to pay Alontae easier and gives us the best CB rotation.
Adding Downs by default means we shop Reid. You can now trade Reid/ Kool-Aid, possibly get a 3rd + 4th, and save $11.5mil which almost pays for Alontae's next contract.
By "trade the house" I mean:
'27 1st/ '28 2nd/ (another 2nd or 3rd + Kool-Aid).
Having an elite CB/ S room with 4 of them on rookie contracts and Taylor as #2 is really far from a bad move.
Its extremely doubtful but its the type of move that would be worth it.
Same situation with Bailey/ Bain
If we can get any (2) of Downs/ Delane/ Bailey/ Bain with only giving up next years 1st and 2nds then it would be worth it. We would then be able to look at trades both of Kool-Aid/ Bresee and get decent picks back while upgrading from them.

I don't think anyone can deny Pickens skill set, But I just don't know if he's a guy that you want to sign to a long-term big money deal.
When Pittsburgh let him go that was a big red flag for me. It was similar to Chase claypool. I mean, usually they're pretty good and they are correct when they make those kind of decisions.
I realize that Pickens put together a nice year for the cowboys but can't they just put the franchise tag on him?
